Halloween Safety Tips for Families
| |
Get the costume and candy bowl ready! Halloween is one of the most exciting nights of the year for kids (and kids at heart). For many parents, however, the fun can be accompanied by stress and anxiety for the safety of their children. Kids love the magic of Halloween, but costume and traffic safety are essential for trick-or-treaters. To assist the community in enjoying this magical holiday as safely as possible, we want to offer some easy and effective safety tips for Halloween that will make this spooky trick-or-treating night a fun filled and safe Halloween for the entire family.

Tips for a Clean Street Sweep |
Street sweeping of public streets is a City service that helps to beautify our community by removing litter and debris from our streets. It also protects our sensitive environment, because street sweeping reduces the pollutant load (litter, brake dust, leaves, pet/animal debris, heavy metals, sediment, etc.) that could clog storm drains or might otherwise reach our beaches, ocean and lagoons.
All streets in the City are swept at least once a month and the major roads are swept more frequently. The City street sweeping schedule is divided into four districts, with each district swept every Tuesday of the month, excluding any 5th Tuesday of a month. Click the "Read More" icon below for more details on the City's street sweeping schedules and locations.
Help keep our streets clean! Residents can help the effectiveness of the street sweeper by doing the following on their scheduled sweeping days:
- Move your vehicle by 6:00 AM on street sweeping day. One parked car prevents about three car lengths of curb or road shoulder from being swept.
- Remove your trash, recycling and organics/green waste bins off of the street after they have been serviced. Trash service is not conducted on Tuesday’s to allow for the street sweeper to service the scheduled areas, so please do not place your containers out early if your trash service is on Wednesdays or leave out the next day if your trash service is on Mondays.
- Rake up leaves or remaining yard trimmings and throw them inside your Green Waste bin. Do not leave piles of yard waste on the street.
- Clear or remove all obstructions like basketball hoops from the street.

La Colonia Park Pickleball Court Now Open!
Good news! The City is excited to announce that the new Pickleball Court at La Colonia Park has been resurfaced, painted and is now open for the community to enjoy! The old basketball court has been repurposed and extended to provide regulation dimensions for the City’s first public pickleball court for free use by the community. Although use of the court is on a “first come, first served basis” (no pun intended!), all Pickleball players are encouraged to share the court with others and be respectful of one another.

Fletcher Cove Park Walkway Repairs & Restoration
Restoration and repair of the concrete walkways at Fletcher Cove Park is scheduled to start on Monday, October 31st. Please be advised that this is a labor-intensive project requiring several weeks of manual work. While the contractor will be working in the park regularly, there will be short periods where segments of the walkways may be closed. The park will remain open and alternative access paths will be established. Please avoid construction areas while using or navigating through the park.
