Dear Holy Name Families,

The 6th grade spent today working at Rose's Bounty packing food and helping load bundles for the drive thru food pantry. When I visited, I was impressed to see how much they had accomplished and to see students working diligently and with smiles on their faces. Their work helped feed 258 families. Thank you to Mrs. Beatrice, Mr. Gordon, Mr. Reilly, and our parent volunteers for both chaperoning and working alongside the students.

Thank to everyone who has supported our Food Drive. Donations can be made through next week. These donations will be brought to Rose's Bounty in support of their Backpack Program.

As the weather gets colder, please be sure your children come to school with appropriate outdoor attire. Children go outside for recess each day unless the temperature is below 24 degrees.

As your make your plans for next week, don't forget Neighborhood Night at West on Monday. Proceeds benefit the 6th grade camp trip. West will donate 10% of any order, dine in or take out, to Holy Name. Coupons to add your order to Holy Name's fundraiser were sent home in students' folders and a link is included below.

Have a great weekend.

Best regards,

Mr. Daniel Chisholm

Principal

Nurse Molly Update

Massachusetts is seeing a spike in Mycoplasma Pneumonia and Pertussis cases primarily in adolescence and school age children. Please see below for information on management and prevention of these respiratory infections.

Mycoplasma Pneumonia

Symptoms: Persistent cough, fever, fatigue

Treatment: Antibiotics such as Azithromycin, Doxycycline or Fluoroquinolone

Prevention: Staying home when you are sick, proper hand and respiratory hygiene

Pertussis or “whooping cough”

Symptoms: Mild respiratory symptoms that may progress to severe paroxysmal cough.  Children often appear well between paroxysmal episodes. The cough is often worse at night. Cyanosis and apnea can occur. Fever is usually absent or mild.

Treatment: Early treatment with Azythromycin can shorten symptom duration and limit spread of disease

Prevention: Individuals who test positive for Pertussis and symptomatic close contacts should be excluded from public activities and complete 5 days of antibiotic treatment. Vaccination for those who are eligible is strongly encouraged

In addition to Mycoplasma and Pertussis, Influenza, Covid, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) will circulate throughout the fall and winter months. Please test, treat and vaccinate your families to help prevent the spread of these illnesses.

Moments Captured this Week at HNPS

Hoop Glider in second grade STEM!

In STEM class, students explored concepts such as drag, thrust, gravity, matter, and mass. They created their own hoops and assembled their gliders using tape and a straw. Once completed, students took their gliders outside to test them, discovering how the wind's force affected their designs. It was an engaging and interactive learning experience!

~Socratic Seminar in Fourth Grade English Class~

In Ms. English's fourth-grade English class, the students engaged in a Socratic seminar that highlighted their respectfulness, kindness, and enthusiasm during the discussion. They explored the question, "What does it mean to have a great heart, both literally and figuratively?" The students made insightful and positive comments, both agreeing and disagreeing with one another. A Socratic seminar is a formal discussion format that promotes critical thinking and collaboration as students delve into the text.

Sixth grade Service Day at Rose's Bounty today. We served 258 families!
