Don't forget the Osawatomie Legislative Breakfast is TOMORROW!
Join us on Saturday, February 223rd for the 2019 Legislative Breakfast. Senator Molly Baumgardner, Senator Caryn Tyson, Representative Mark Samsel and Representative Jene Vickrey will be in attendance and you will have the opportunity to hear from them and to submit your own questions all while enjoying a free buffet style breakfast at the OHS Cafeteria. Commercial Trash Service
For all businesses that have traditional once a week pick up for trash services (assuming you are providing your own 96 gallon bin or less and not renting a cart), please keep in mind that you should be paying the residential rate (roughly $18/month). This applies to businesses that are providing their own bins, not commercial dumpsters.
If you are being charged more than this, please feel free to contact Waste Management at (866) 570-4702 and City Hall at (913) 755-2146 so that they are aware of this problem.

FEBRUARY BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services
THEY HAVE MOVED.
One day in Mid-March of last year, Railene Ahring
(the founder of Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services) was
in Coach Light buying some clothing. There were several ladies in Coach Light that day discussing the pink windows a few doors down. Apparently those pink windows were the talk of the town. As she overheard this conversation, she interrupted one of the ladies and stated they were moving into the building with the pink windows. One of the ladies said, “Oh good! What business are you putting in?” and Railene answered “Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services” The lady then asked if it has anything to do with drug/alcohol treatment of which Railene stated “Why yes it does”. The lady replied back with “Well it’s about time someone started doing something about all the drug and alcohol issues this town has”.
In April of 2018 Railene and Mike Ahring began leasing the building at 569 Main Street. After remodeling the entire building, they were finally able to move in in May of 2018.
On November 19, 2018 Railene and Mike signed the officially papers to close on the purchase of the building they had worked so diligently on remodeling. They felt that if they bought the building, rather than continuing to lease, then Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services would have a home. They felt that they would be part of the community for years to come. They also felt like businesses come and go but THEY ARE HERE TO STAY.
Railene is the founder of Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services. She is originally from LaCygne and has lived in this area for most of her life. She started on the path of Recovery in 2005 and is someone in long term recovery. She began college in 2006 to become an Addiction Counselor and in 2007 moved to Osawatomie and married shortly thereafter.
Debra McKenzie helped Railene to start Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services and is still a part of her team today. In August 2016 Michael Medina started part-time with them to help provide a more rounded treatment model. Michael works for the Johnson County Department of Corrections and is still a part of Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services today.
This facility provides Drug/Alcohol assessments for Juveniles and Adults and includes outpatient substance abuse treatment, outpatient care, intensive outpatient care, family and group counseling. They also focus on adolescent and adult counseling and are approved to provide substance abuse education and prevention courses/services.
Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services pledges to provide distinct quality and unparalleled treatment services to all rural communities surrounding this area to include Miami, Linn, Franklin and Anderson County. Their door is also always open to those who may not live in those counties. Not only do they strive to gain the respect and trust of this community, but hope to help equip adolescents and adults alike to make healthy life decisions.
The philosophy of Sunflower Substance Abuse Recovery Services encompasses a multi-faceted approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Their incorporation of different treatment models focuses on the psycho/social/behavioral spiritual health and well-being of those individuals seeking services.

Escape Room at the Osawatomie Public Library

Saturday, February 23rd at
10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m.,1:00 p.m., 2:00 pm & 3:00 pm
Join the Library for an adventure game in which a team of players must unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the room in order to…ESCAPE. Players are given 45 minutes to solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand. Teams will consist of 6 players. Smaller groups and individuals may sign up and be combined to make up a team of six. Players are restricted to ages 12+.
This activity has limited enrollment and each team will be assigned a specific start time, so REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

It's time for the Gun of the Month drawing!
Purchase a $20 ticket for a chance to win in February. The drawing for February will be on February 27th. If your name is drawn it goes back in the pot for another chance to win! Re-Scheduled Adult Craft Workshop at the Osawatomie Library
