Did You Know?

That Census numbers are used to distribute over $6 BILLION in federal funds to Kansas every year?!? Every uncounted person costs the state of Kansas approximately $2,082 in federal funding! AND it's only a once every-10-year process, so it's crucial to get the count right or states that are under counted will be short changed for a DECADE!

The Census is important and that’s why we need you to get your city, county, and community involved! For more info please feel free to visit www.KansasCounts.org

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
FEBRUARY BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
MIAMI COUNTY CANCER FOUNDATION

Miami County Cancer Foundation was founded on February 2nd 2009 by a group of Miami County Residents who were dedicated to helping anyone in the County battling cancer. Like you, eaach one of these residents had been touched by caner in some way, personally, a loved one, a neighbor, friend or co-worker. They all wanted to in some way.

They set up their first office in a small room the American Family Insurance office on Baptiste Drive in Paola. As they grew the moved to their current location at 907 North Pearl Street, Suite 6 in Paola. All of their Members and Workers are volunteers.

Their main concern is making sure the person fighting cancer can get to their treatments. They provide gas cards to get them to and from treatments, scans, labs (when necessary) and Oncologist visits. They also provide gift cards for groceries. Ladies with the Miami County Quilt Guild make and donate lap quilts for each client. Others make neck pillows, seat belt covers, knitted and crocheted caps and scarves.

They have three main fundraisers every year. One of the first ones is in Spring to early Summer, which consists of a hot dog lunch with goodies and a drink prepared by another member and is sold to the businesses in Osawatomie, Paola and Lousiburg. They also one in the fall that consists of Chili or Soup with goodies and a drink. A lot of work, but a lot of fun!

They also have a dinner every March, a Ride for Life in May and a No One Fights Alone in October. They also participate in the Annual "Tank" Ride in October and receive a a portion of that fundraiser.

Their goal is t o maximize services and resources to those battling cancer by offering services, promoting early detection and linking available resources. "No One Fights Alone"
