Sea King Families,
Spring Break is here! Our third quarter of this school year came to an end on Friday. I am so proud of all that our students have accomplished this school year. The vibe on campus continues to be positive with our students finding a variety of ways to be connected to our Sea King community. When we return to school, we will start the final quarter to wrap up our second semester. Our juniors will begin our important state testing cycle in April and our AP students will have their final push before their tests begin in May. Our administration will be making presentations in our junior English classes to discuss these upcoming tests and help our students understand the importance of their efforts both for them as individuals and for our school community.
I hope your families have an opportunity to recharge and reconnect during our Spring Break. Our days can be so busy and hectic so I hope this week is a chance to rest and enjoy some family time.
Have a wonderful week and we will see you back on campus on April 3rd!
Sincerely,
Dr. Trista Ramirez
Principal

PVHS students amaze judges at LA County Science Fair
Congratulations to our PVHS Science Research Students for competing at the 73rd Annual LA County Science and Engineering Fair last week! This year, these research students conducted independent research in a field of their choice while earning elective credits in a Science Research class. These students are truly remarkable, as they all developed their own investigative question and research plan, carried out their experimentation, analyzed their own data, and improved their presentation skills by discussing their findings with judges at the fair.
PVHS advanced 12 projects to the LA County Science Fair. Our students competed against over 150 projects from students located all over LA county. Of those 12 projects, 5 projects will advance to California State Science Fair in April!
If you are interested in learning more about the Science Research class, please contact Julie Munoz at munozj@pvpusd.net.

PVHS Math Club Moves up to Division A with historic Season
The PV High Math Club has had two exciting weeks!
Last week, twelve students in PVHS Math Club competed at Bay Math League at South High. Congratulations to Eugene Lee who finished in 4th place out of all seniors, and Christine Xie who finished in 2nd place out of all juniors. The students competed in topics of similar triangles, systems of equations, solving trigonometric equations, optimization, and special numbers including perfect, abundant, and deficient numbers. If you don't know what those are, ask PVHS "mathletes" Eugene Lee, Natasha Nirmal, or Mason Condello, who scored perfect scores in that round!
This week, six students from the Math Club competed at Math Day at the Beach at CSULB with 32 of the top teams in Southern California. PVHS got 3rd place in Division B against 25 other schools. Senior Eugene Lee received a perfect score and special shout out to sophomore Mason Condello for his great results which really helped the team. Because of the team's success, PVHS will now be moved to Division A with the other top teams in the region.
Congratulations to all the PV Math Club members who have committed time on Mondays and Thursdays to compete and learn some cool math!
Most of our students who competed are seniors, so we would need you students who love math to join Math Club next year!

State and AP Testing Coming up in April and May
When we return from Spring Break testing season will be upon us! Our Juniors will start with participating in state testing in Science, English, and Math and AP students of all grades will participate in AP tests.
| | |
The State of California assesses schools by testing 11th grade students in Science, English, and Math. A school's scores on these tests are one of the biggest factors in determining a school's ranking, which colleges look at when they are considering students for admission. Thus, a strong performance on the SBAC ELA, Math and CAST Test is absolutely pivotal in keeping our California school ranking strong and for giving our students the best chance to get into the top colleges and universities.
Please join PVHS Staff in encouraging our students to prepare and do their best on these upcoming tests and to Go for the Green, the highest school ranking a school can achieve on the CAASPP tests.
For more information about the exam: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca
For information on opting out of state tests, please contact Mr. Hill at hilld@pvpusd.net.
