Advocating for strong policies to boost Oregon Homeownership

Oregon is 43rd in the nation when it comes to homeownership - and the shortage of affordable homes is making it worse. MacHabitat joined near 100 housing advocates from across the state at the Oregon State Capitol to urge legislators to support investments that will increase the supply of entry-level homes and sustain critical downpayment assistance and matched-savings programs — key pathways to homeownership.

Paired with our neighbors at Newberg Area Habitat for Humanity, MacHabitat team members met with three congressional offices to advocate for housing initiatives like the Homeownership Development Incubator Program - which has allowed us to increase our production of affordable homes in the McMinnville area.

Oregon needs a bigger, more diverse housing supply to meet the needs of our growing communities. Let’s work together to create a future where everyone has a place to call home.

Friday, April 25, 5-7pm: Black Dog Vineyard Hope Builder Social! - Join us April 25th, from 5:00-7:00pm at Black Dog Vineyard in Carlton. It is 21+ only. Beverages will be available for purchase, including beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages (no outside beverages are allowed). Feel free to bring a light appetizer or dessert for the event/potluck. There will be games indoors and outdoors (weather permitting). Donations to MacHabitat are welcome during the event.

MAY 1-31, 6-8pm: Eat at Honey Pie Pizza's "Pie With Purpose" to support MacHabitat! A portion of each specialty pie-of-the-month will benefit our home/repair programs.

Thank you to the Unlocking Homeownership Coalition!

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Unlocking Homeownership Coalition Lobby Day at the Oregon State Capitol this week! Nearly 100 advocates from 45+ organizations met with 66 Oregon legislators to push for more homes and greater opportunities.

Led by Habitat for Humanity of Oregon, the Coalition has regular meetings to share the latest housing policy initiatives and action steps to ensure that housing is made more accessible and affordable for all Oregonians.

By expanding affordable options and removing barriers, we can create new pathways to homeownership for all Oregonians. We are so thankful for the work that the Coalition puts in to bring people together. Together we are building a future where homeownership is within reach for more families and individuals.
