Lights on the Lake Window Decorating Contest

The Lights on the Lake is just a couple of weeks away and as the City continues to get ready for the festivities, so will the businesses of Osawatomie with a Window Decorating Contest! All businesses are welcome to join in the fun by decorating their window in a Patriotic theme this year! This is meant to be FUN, so have FUN with it! Think about how FANTABULOUS it would be to have all our businesses all done up for the Lights on the Lake Festival!

Keep in mind that if you would like for your window to be judged, you will need to contact me by Friday, June 21st so that I can get your name on the list. This list is designed to help those businesses that are located further out of the downtown area. Please contact me via phone or e-mail to let me know that you'd like to be put on the list! If I am unavailable, please feel free to leave a message!

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
JUNE BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
OSAWATOMIE ELKS LODGE #921

Elks Lodges bring so much more to their communities than just a building, golf course or pool. They are places where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up.

Elks Lodges invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, meet the needs of today’s veterans, and improve the quality of life.

The Osawatomie Elks Lodge #921 was organized in June 0f 1904, after which a Non-Fraternal Organization was incorporated and a month later it was chartered, and its first meeting held.

The Osawatomie Elks Lodge was organized through the efforts of Joe S. Johnson, who was an Osawatomie merchant. At the time, the Lodge was sponsored by Ottawa Lodge #803. Joe S. Johnson was the first Exalted Ruler and served 2 terms.

The first meeting was held in the basement of the defunct Farmers and Merchants Bank at 5th and Main Street. Construction of the present Lodge Building at 422 Main was started in 1915 and completed a year later at a cost of $16,287.00. It was dedicated on May 15th 1916.

The Osawatomie Elks Lodge sponsors and participates in numerous community programs such as Veteran’s Day, Flag Day, P.T.A., Oz Food Panty, Fire Department, National Guard, School Programs, Tri-Ko, and many others. Monies raised provide Scholarships each year to Seniors from Osawatomie, Paola, Louisburg, and LaCygne.

To learn more, or if you would like to visit the lodge or are interested in becoming a member, please feel free to contact a fellow lodge member or give Tom Troutman a call at (913) 909-0700. You can also e-mail him at [email protected] .

2020 Census Information:

Did you know if 1 person is missed in your community in the 2020 Census, there is a potential financial loss to your community of $2,082*? In Kansas, the average household is 2.5 residents. If one “average” household is missed, that can cost a community $5,205 per year. Then, consider that a census won’t occur for another 10 years – that’s $52,050 in lost resources your community relies on. The Census is important and that’s why we need you to get your city, county, and community involved. (*Data provided by  George Washington Institute of Public Policy ). From a direct economic development perspective, retailers and business prospects are attracted to areas with a growing population.
