Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

Earlier this week, three of our PVHS educators were honored by the Southwest SELPA for their work with our special education students. These awards are presented to "Educators Making a Difference" and these Sea King educators do this every day in supporting their students at our school.

Please join me in congratulating:

PVHS Science National Honors Society Dazzles for Earth Week

This week's Student Spotlight goes to the amazing students in our PVHS Science National Honors Society(SNHS) for an incredibly well-organized and spirited week of activities for Earth Week.

These amazing students put on quite a week of festivities, featuring something educational and interactive for any Sea King that wanted to participate. From a movie night, to a guest speaker, to themed music and activities, the Science National Honors Society students had the entire campus thinking Green this week.

While Sea King students showed great interest in all Earth Week activities, a fan favorite was Friday's activity where three of the newest models of electrical vehicles were on display in the one of our classroom pods. Students got to preview a Tesla Model 3, a 2022 Rivian R1S Launch Edition, and a 2023 Lucid Air.

A very special thanks to Mrs. Kuhn and Mrs. Maemoto for being tremendous advisors of this club and for your help in organizing the week's activities!

Awesome job PVHS SNHS students! You taught us all something this week!

PVHS Model United Nations Hosts its First Ever MUN Conference

This past Saturday our PVHS Model United Nations Team(MUN) hosted its first ever MUN conference at PVHS and it was a tremendous success!

Anish Chowdhury and Michelle Nikmehr hosted the World Tourism Committee comprised of all PVHS students and got to present junior Michael Mackiewicz his award as he took top honors as Best Delegate.

Hosting schools from all over Southern California in an academic competition of this magnitude took months of planning and hard work. Our team advisor Mrs. Driver is incredibly proud of her students and wants to give a huge shout out to PVHS seniors Janna Lee and Grant Walther for their leadership in planning and hosting this event.

PVHS Model United Nations has had an incredible season this year, and we are proud of all our MUN students for their passion and making this team so successful!

Great job Sea Kings!

State and AP Testing in April and May

The testing season is upon us! Our Juniors will be participating in state testing in Science, English, and Math and our AP students of all grades will participate in their subject area AP tests. The full testing schedule is below for your reference.

The State of California assesses schools by testing 11th-grade students in Science, English, and Math. A school's scores on these tests are a major factor in determining a school's ranking, which some colleges look at when they are considering students for admission. Thus, a strong performance on the SBAC ELA, Math, and CAST Tests is absolutely pivotal in keeping our California school ranking strong and giving our students the best chance with admission at the top colleges and universities.

Please join PVHS Staff in encouraging our students to prepare and do their best on these upcoming tests and to Go for the Green, the highest school ranking a school can achieve on the CAASPP tests.

For more information about the exam: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca

For information on opting out of state tests for 11th-grade students,

please contact our associate principal, Mr. Hill at hilld@pvpusd.net.

College Planning Guidance: The Cost of College

Thursday, April 27th @ 6:30pm in the CCC

PRESENTED BY: STEPHANIE HANCOCK

(Formerly The College Aid Lady)

More than 20 years ago, Stephanie Hancock founded what would ultimately become College AidWorks. During this special presentation for PVHS, Stephanie will share:

  • How important it is for parents to understand the rules of a game they don’t even realize that they are playing.

  • How a family could be shooting itself in the foot if it does not figure out its aid eligibility before the college list gets finalized!

  • How to create a plan of action for getting through the entire process with the least disappointment possible and so that students receive full consideration for all aid available to them.

  •  A systematic way of determining where a student’s best chance of securing the available financial aid.
