Heart Mountain Journey and Workshop, October 23-25, 2026

Who wants to be St. Matthew's representative?

What: Heart Mountain Journey and Workshop is a new program offered to members of the Episcopal Church as a way to explore a time when our nation, gripped by fear and prejudice, forced 125,000 citizens of Japanese descent from their homes and incarcerated them in camps during World War II. The Heart Mountain Interpretive Center is built on the site of one of these camps, where 14,000 imprisoned Japanese Americans struggled to live on the high plains under appalling conditions. The weekend will feature a variety of programs and speakers, including Sam Mihara, the 2024 Jefferson Lecturer, who lived at Heart Mountain as a boy. This sacred place will transform the person who journeys here.

When: Friday, October 23rd to Sunday, October 25th

The next journey will be May 28-31, 2027 (registration/wait list open in January 2027).

Where: Participants will stay at Thomas the Apostle Center (TAC) in Cody, Wyoming and attend programs at the Mineta Simpson Institute at Heart Mountain Wyoming.

Who: For this inaugural Journey, since we have limited space, we are looking for a single representative from each parish to attend, then go back to their church community as an ambassador—sharing what they have learned and inspiring others to participate in a future Journey. This program is free, funded by the Foundation of the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming, and includes programs, lodging, meals and transportation to and from Heart Mountain and TAC. Travel expenses are excluded, but funds are available if travel expenses are of concern.

St. Alban's Chapel

Our services at St Alban's Chapel in the Snowies will begin Sunday, July 5, and will continue through out July and August. Service starts at 10:00 am. 

Location of the chapel:

St. Alban's is located about a mile north from the Snowy Range Scenic Byway (Highway 130) on Brooklyn Lake Road (Forest Service Road 317). The chapel parking lot is on the right side of Brooklyn Lake Road, nearly directly across the road from Little Brooklyn Lake. The turn off Highway 130 should be marked with a sign for "Mountain Meadows Cabins," and there should be a little sign pointing toward St. Alban's Chapel, as well (visible about the time you get to the road).

It is 7 or 8 miles from Centennial, 41 mostly-mountainous miles from Saratoga, 47 miles from Laramie, 83 miles from Rawlins, and 87 miles from Cheyenne.

Bishop Search Prayer 

Almighty God giver of every good gift and source of all wisdom and understanding look graciously upon your church and so guide the minds and hearts of those who will choose our next bishop. We pray that to those who offer themselves as candidates in this process you will grant wisdom and discernment a spirit of revelation and knowledge of your will that they will care for all your people and equip us for our ministries through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
