Coronado's Fourth of July Celebration 2022 is in the books. The City created a compilation video of the three-day holiday weekend. See link above. The Fourth of July is traditionally the City’s biggest holiday. From the parade down Orange Avenue to the fireworks display, Coronado saw big crowds attending activities all over town. What you should know about summer beach fires

As summer is here and more people are visiting Coronado, please keep in mind that there are rules about beach fires. The City asks that you follow these simple rules when enjoying a fire using the fire rings or your own small personal fire pit/grill on the beach. Use only clean wood (pallets not allowed) or charcoal; place fire materials no higher than 12 inches above the upper edge of the fire ring or container; keep fire materials inside the fire ring or container; and dispose of the hot coals and unused fire materials properly. City-provided fire rings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The City hires private security to monitor beach fires.
Palm Weevils require City to cut down 2 palms this week
The City cut down two palms this week due to the South American Palm Weevil. The weevil is a species of snout beetle that, according to the University of California’s Agricultural & Natural Resources division, has killed hundreds of Canary Island Date Palms in San Diego since it was first detected in March 2016. The beetle measure about 1½ inches long but it can be difficult to detect until a palm is already infested. There are signs to look for such as yellow foliage, flattening of the crown, holes and tunnels, and pupal cases on the ground. One palm was removed from Alameda Boulevard earlier this week and one was removed at Mathewson Park on Thursday, July 7, after the City’s arborist confirmed they were infested. Removing infested palms helps delay the spread of the pest. Arborists say if residents have Canary Island Date Palms, they should have them inspected and treated.
