A Prayer for Ukraine and Russia

God of the nations, whose sovereign rule brings
justice and peace,
have mercy on our broken and divided world.
Shed abroad your peace in the hearts of all
and banish from them the spirit that makes for war,
that all races and peoples may learn to live
as members of one family
and in obedience to your law,
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

NOTICE OF CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

On March 15, 2022 the following motion was made at the Board meeting.

Motion: that the congregation of St. Mark’s purchase technical streaming equipment, cost to be shared equally with Knox Presbyterian Church. Money to be taken from Memorial Fund.

The quote received from Mountain Audio Equipment for the equipment is $9, 965.00 plus HST. Consequently, this would mean that the cost to St. Mark's would be over $5000.00. The church's policy requires that any purchase over $5000.00 must be approved by the congregation. As a result, we ask that you attend a Congregational Meeting on March 27th immediately following worship to discuss and vote on this expediture.

Caring Corner

Please continue to pray for those in our community whose situations are known to us and unknown to us. At this time we offer prayers for healing for Edith Bisbee and Jean Wilson. Edith had surgery in February and reports she is recovering well at home. Jean broke her wrist and says she is counting down the days until her cast is remove and she can use her right hand easily again.
We pray for healing, strength, comfort, and courage for Edith and Jean and for all those in need of it today.
On Thursday we received this email from Averil Thompson's son.
"I’m writing on behalf of the Thompson family to let you know that my mother, Averil Thompson, passed away peacefully this morning. She wanted everyone to know that she was grateful for having had much good fortune in her life and that she treasured her friends and family deeply. Celebration of life details to follow in late spring."

Soup’s On!

On Sunday, April 24th, St. Mark’s will welcome “The Raw Carrot” to our worship service. The Raw Carrot operates out of Paris Presbyterian Church in Paris, Ontario and provides meaningful employment and livelihood security to individuals on social assistance who want to and CAN work. They partner with churches and non-profits with a vision of reducing poverty. The Raw Carrot hires individuals on the Ontario Disability Support Programs to cook and package handcrafted gourmet soup that is sold at farmers markets and retail locations in the local community. Sales of their healthy soup fund the salaries of those working at The Raw Carrot.
This purpose fits in nicely with the Community Outreach that St. Mark’s supports through the Community Dinners, the Dundas Foodbank and the Rotary Gardens. In March, we will have a chance to pre-order soup from the Raw Carrot and on April 24th, Elena Haskell will be sharing the story of The Raw Carrot with us. Elena will be bringing our soup orders and we hope that you will want to sample some of the delicious, healthy, gourmet soups that will be offered. In doing so, you will also be giving a hand up to those who are struggling.
The soup is $10.00 per 3 serving package and we will be offering Signature Carrot, Flying Noodle (chunky chicken noodle) and Loaded Potato and Bacon. You will have the opportunity to pre-order your soup of choice and there will be order forms available in the Narthex on March 20th, 27th and April 3rd. All pre-orders with payment (cash only, please) must be in by April 3rd. So mark the date because Soup’s On at St. Mark’s!
Easter Memories
What stands out in many of the Easters from your past?
I remember, when I was a little girl, being excited about getting dressed up and going to church for the Easter service .... after I had searched my house and found all the Easter eggs of course.
Jennifer Hampson

Agatha Grant remembers going to Easter sunrise service in Jamaica to a place in the woods where there was a beautiful view. Her Mom and Aunt sometimes made new clothes for the kids. Canada was a lot the same with boiled eggs but here she remembers people writing scripture verses on them! She remembers treats of sweet buns with cheese.

Yarmie Dingle remembers it being more of a sacred quiet and thoughtful time making us stop and think about why we were giving up things. She also remembers folks drawing on Easter eggs while they were still warm so that the wax on the crayons would melt. They made small yeast buns that would fit in the palm of your hand and filled them with jam or cheese!

Rev. Peg remembers, new Easter outfits, white patten leather shoes, little gloves, hats and the year she got 2 chocolate easter bunnies as big as her!

A MISSION AND SERVICE STORY
Rebuilding After Loss: Lisa’s Story
What do I do with the wedding ring now? Do I still wear it? Do I not wear it? Do you change the sheets when you can still smell your partner on them? These are questions Lisa asked after her husband Steve died. Through your Mission & Service gifts, a widows’ support group helps Lisa and others cope with loss.
