City facilities offer relief from heat wave, high temps

A long-duration heat wave is expected from the beaches to the desert through Labor Day weekend. In Coronado, residents may visit the Coronado Public Library, Spreckels Center or Community Center pools during regular operating hours for some relief from the heat.

Coronado to launch e-bike safety campaign as use soars



Electric bikes are everywhere. They are faster than a traditional bike, raising potential safety concerns. While there have been no serious incidents in Coronado, the City is taking steps to educate the public and pursue greater enforcement.

City to observe Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 5

The City will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 5. Public Services crews will not sweep streets. EDCO will not perform regular residential trash collection. As a result, service will be delayed one day. A reminder that the Free Summer Shuttle program for 2022 will end on Labor Day. 
Ferry Landing announces second public meeting




The Coronado Ferry Landing will host a second public meeting on Sept. 22 to allow the community to review updated concepts for proposed enhancements to the property. The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Coronado Public Library’s Winn Room, 640 Orange Ave.



Upcoming election is reminder of yard sign rules




As the Nov. 8 election nears, the City would like to remind the community about yard signs and the City’s ordinance with respect to signs. Political signs have been observed around town in increasing numbers and more are expected. The City strives to be consistent when enforcing its municipal codes.

Author Talk: Elena Armas
Veterans Benefits Counseling 
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of “The American Roommate Experiment” Elena Armas is kicking off her U.S. tour for her latest book, in person at the Coronado Library on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. 
The County office of Military and Veterans’ Affairs will bring a mobile office to the Library on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The truck will provide in-person benefits counseling and other assistance to veterans.

Skateboard classes for all levels
The National Council on Aging designates September as National Senior Center Month. The John D. Spreckels Center is proud to play an important role in enhancing the quality of life for adults 50-plus and there are no membership dues to participate. Nugget, a 4-year-old Chihuahua mix, is this week’s Pet of the Week. Nugget is a happy dog that seems to never stop smiling. He’s not much for toys but loves walks and spending time with people. He is initially shy but opens up quickly. He would love to be the only dog in the house to soak up all the attention. Nugget’s adoption fee is $125.
