You matter, and we need you to be part of us – all the things that happen at St. John’s Cathedral.
Nothing just happens: glorious music takes talent, time and money, as does worship, hospitality, ministries within and beyond the walls of the Cathedral. We can spend money on our church grounds, or we can show up and help garden. We can host grand services and celebrations, but the work of it all, still requires more than the small staff you employ.
Let us give life to St. John’s Cathedral. Come to church, do something, and give graciously as if the church means something to you. Staff will come and go, but this church, St. John’s belongs to all of us as followers of Christ, whether you claim it or not.
Last Easter Sunday was a beautiful sight to behold. New and old members gathered, talking, laughing, children running all about, people helping people - telling staff, “go, we got this.”
In the midst of it all is the Risen One, the one who keeps showing up, giving us life and love, offering peace, and calling us home. Happy Easter!
Much love and blessings,
Anne+

New Arrival at the Cathedral
On March 30 a new sacred piece of diocesan furniture made its way over from Echo Park to West Adams Boulevard. Canon for Common Life, Bob Williams, is proudly pictured here next to the 'Dean's Chair' handcrafted in 1924 for the former diocesan cathedral, St. Paul's. Canon Bob has been advocating tirelessly for the chair to return to use at the cathedral. St. Paul's was closed in 1980 after it was determined that earthquake damage was too expensive to be repaired. The chair has been located at Diocesan House, then the Cathedral Center of St. Paul (today St. Paul's Commons) from 1994 to 2026. The chair was created to match the bishop's cathedra which is also pictured and was moved to St. John's in 2019. The chair displays the names of previous deans and provosts who have served the diocese since 1901. Later this spring, the listing will be updated to include the cathedral's most recent deans since 2008.

Add your name to the Altar Quilt
The original altar quilt, created in 2010, draws on two African American quilting traditions—appliqué and embroidery—to tell the story of diversity and community at St. John’s. Each panel represents a member’s story through four elements: place of birth, year of affiliation, name, and involvement in parish life. You are invited to add your name to this shared history. Assistance will be available through Canon Earl Mounger. He can help you choose precut colors and follow simple instructions. If you have moved and would like to add your name, contact the church office for information. Download Your Order Form Here
