The Weekly Update

Guibord Center: There's Something about Mary

Saturday, August 22

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Guibord Center is honored to partner with the Immaculate Heart Community and Corita Art Center as they plan to take Mary out-of-the-box where she has been cemented into statues of half smiles and sorrow. Mary is so much more! She holds space, time and place among holy matriarchs across traditions, religions, spiritual, and cultural genres. Conversation, music, lunch and resources will be shared. RSVP NOW for tickets. The event will be held in-person at St. John's Cathedral.

Save the Date: Grandparent's Day

Sunday, September 13

All grandparents and their families are invited to stay after services as we celebrate the love, wisdom, and unique voice our grandparents bring to this church family. Did you know that in 1978, then-President Jimmy Carter signed legislation passed by Congress proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents' Day? The proclamation cites that the day is to "...honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer".

Belize Day at the Cathedral

Sunday, September 20

The cathedral community will celebrate the 45th anniversary of Belize's independence from Great Britain. Join the congregation for coffee hour directly after the 10:00 a.m. service and experience a taste of Belizean culture as we celebrate the rich and colorful tapestry of community here at St. John's. Come home this year to connect with family and friends (old and new).

Save the Date: Annual Ministry Fair

Sunday, September 27

9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Scripture reminds us in 1 John 3:18 that we are called not to love with words alone, but with actions and in truth. The Ministry Fair is a wonderful way to put that calling into practice. Each ministry will have a table where you can meet leaders, ask questions, and discover how your gifts can make a difference. Whether it’s through creative arts, hospitality, teaching, service, or behind-the-scenes support, there’s a place for you to show Christ’s love in action. Come and see how you can grow in faith while serving others.

Nuevo Amanecer 2026

Latino Ministries Conference

Registration is now open for Nuevo Amanecer 2026, a series of two biennial gatherings celebrating Latino ministries across The Episcopal Church. This year, the conference is split into two smaller, focused events featuring identical workshops: the first will be held September 28–October 1 at the Kanuga retreat center in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and the second will take place November 9–12 at Camp Allen in Navasota, Texas.

The Kanuga conference will feature the Rt. Rev. Craig Loya, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, as the keynote speaker. The Texas conference will feature our new Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Antonio Gallardo. Additionally, our own Cathedral Sexton, Heyden Morales, will be attending the Texas conference as part of the leadership team.

You can register for either event at iam.ec/nuevoamanecer26.

It is open for ALL! Speak with Mr. Heyden Morales after services if you would like more information.

Compline

Sunday, October 4

7.00 p.m.

Compline returns for the months of October and November. Let your prayers arise like incense and embrace a time to "be still" and inwardly digest the presence of God among us. Compline has been the last office of prayer before the close of day since the sixth century. The short liturgy is divided into several sections: the chanting of psalms, scripture, and prayers. Reception to follow.
