Gardening Ministry Meets

Saturday, March 1

9.00 a.m. - 11.00 a.m.

Grab your gloves and join us on the lawn; the Gardening Ministry meets! Help us care for the earth. We will weed, cut, prune, fertilize, plant, mulch, and water, as well as share stories and gardening tips in good humor and fellowship. If you enjoy getting your fingernails and knees dirty, join the St. John's Gardening Ministry. Feel free to bring your favorite gardening tools!

Compline Continues

Sunday, March 2

8.00 p.m.

Let your prayers arise like incense and embrace a time to "be still" and inwardly digest the presence of God among us. Compline has been the last office of prayer before the close of day since the sixth century. The short liturgy is divided into several sections: the chanting of psalms, scripture, and prayers. Reception to follow.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Tuesday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 5

Mark your calendars now for our gathering on Shrove Tuesday (pancakes WILL be served at 5.00 p.m.) followed by a burning of the palms in preparation for all three of our Ash Wednesday services; ashes-to-go will be available throughout that day.

March 4, 2025 | Shrove Tuesday at 6.30 p.m. (Pancakes at 5.00 p.m.)

March 5, 2025 | Ash Wednesday at 8.00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.

Preparation for Baptism

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church. Are you interested in baptism, for yourself or for your children? Our next baptism will be held on April 19, 2025 during the Easter Vigil. Please contact The Rev. Mel Soriano  to prepare yourself and your children for baptism.

The Night is Long but Light Comes in the Morning

by Catherine Meeks, foreword by Michael B. Curry

Be sure to place this book on your reading list for Black History Month 2025. Dr. Catherine Meeks challenges readers to look inward—and to each other—to have the honest conversations that are essential to healing the racial divide. In this new paperback edition, a discussion guide is provided to help start and guide these crucial conversations. Place your order with Church Publishing today!

Don't forget to sign up!

If your birthday is in March, please use the sign-up sheets on the bulletin board in the fountain courtyard or contact the Rev. Mel Soriano to sponsor coffee hour. Whether it’s cookies, fruit, or something homemade or heartier, your contribution will help make our time of fellowship even more joyful.

Thank you for sharing your special month with the community—we can’t wait to celebrate together!

Being a Sanctuary Diocese

From The Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor

As reports come in about ICE raids around the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, I write to remind my siblings in Christ that, by act of diocesan convention in December 2016, we are a sanctuary diocese.

“Sanctuary” is generally but not exclusively understood as sheltering immigrant workers and their families in churches. I’m not aware of any of our 133 missions and parishes which currently do so. This doesn’t rule it out if circumstances warrant. We look forward to joining with colleagues in the ecumenical and interfaith community in mounting legal challenges if the current administration follows through on its stated intention to violate the sanctity of churches and other places of worship when they shelter those fleeing unjust power.
