A Message from the Dean

Dear Beloved St. John’s Cathedral,

Thank you so much for graciously welcoming the people of Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and our new bishop, The Rt. Rev. Antonio José Gallardo Lucena to St. John’s to be installed in the cathedra! Thank you for all the ways you gave generously.

Special thanks to Nazario and his team who made the grounds of the Cathedral look beautiful. To Nate Hicks, the amazing master of ceremonies, as well as our fabulous vergers and acolytes who led processions and served at the altar, we give thanks. Special thanks to the ushers who welcomed, guided and kept a watchful eye on those gathered. To the choir, who sang with glorious voices, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Gravis and the talented Dr. Zachery Neufeld on the organ, let us sing praise... [continue reading]

Nuevo Amanecer 2026

Latino Ministries Conference

Registration is now open for Nuevo Amanecer 2026, a series of two biennial gatherings celebrating Latino ministries across The Episcopal Church. This year, the conference is split into two smaller, focused events featuring identical workshops: the first will be held September 28–October 1 at the Kanuga retreat center in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and the second will take place November 9–12 at Camp Allen in Navasota, Texas.

The Kanuga conference will feature the Rt. Rev. Craig Loya, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, as the keynote speaker. The Texas conference will feature our new Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Antonio Gallardo. Additionally, our own Cathedral Sexton, Heyden Morales, will be attending the Texas conference as part of the leadership team.

You can register for either event at iam.ec/nuevoamanecer26.

It is open for ALL! Speak with Mr. Heyden Morales after services if you would like more information.

Forward Day by Day

Limit one copy per person

Copies of Day by Day for August, September, and October are now available on the welcome table at the back of the church.

Inspiring readers since our first issue was published in 1935, Forward Day by Day remains a significant resource for daily prayer and Bible study to more than a half million readers worldwide.

Forward Day by Day is a booklet of daily inspirational meditations reflecting on a specific Bible passage, chosen from the daily lectionary readings as listed in the Revised Common Lectionary or the Daily Office from the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer.

The meditations are rich in substance and offer a wide range of witness and experiences. Each month’s meditation is written by a different author, providing fresh and diverse messages to readers on a regular basis.

Forward Movement, a ministry of the Episcopal Church, grew out of the determination of the General Convention in 1934 to counter a period of anxiety, distrust, and decline in the Episcopal Church with a "forward movement" charged to "reinvigorate the life of the church and to rehabilitate its general, diocesan, and parochial work."

Vote Faithfully Networking Calls

Thursday, August 6

1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

[Register Here] On the first Thursday of each month from June through November, The Episcopal Church's Public Policy and Witness team will host a series of “Vote Faithfully” calls to support voter engagement in ways consistent with Episcopal values.

During the calls, hosts will share resources and ideas to help congregations promote voting and civic participation while remaining nonpartisan (avoiding support for specific political parties, candidates, or platforms).
