Consider sponsoring flowers on Sunday morning in honor of loved ones who have passed or to give thanks to God for blessings received. Please contact the parish office if you wish to learn more about sponsoring Sunday morning flowers. The minimum donation is seventy-five dollars. Joint sponsorships are welcome.

This month for Pride on Sunday, the 14th of June Bishop Elect Antonio Gallardo Lucena will celebrate Eucharist at the LA Pride Parade at 11am. As the Cathedral, we are hoping that a good number of members will attend this special gathering. Eucharist will happen before the parade begins, so folks who do not want to walk or cannot walk for any reason can attend worship and then leave.
Services at St. John’s Cathedral will be held. At the 10am service, after the opening hymn and acclamation, the Rev. Lyn Crow will send forth everyone who would like to join Rev. Mel and me from the service to catch the train to the parade. Please join us! The more the merrier, and we will serve as guides along the way.
After the Eucharist at the parade, there will be the opportunity for church members to walk a portion of the parade and then leave with a clergy member; or walk the full parade with a clergy member and then return home by train to the Cathedral. Please wear comfortable shoes and walking clothes, as well as a hat and sun screen if it’s sunny. The parade is a joyful event, and our presence means more than you can imagine.
At the parade we will gather with other members and clergy of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and Bishop Elect Antonio. All of us will proclaim a message of God’s love as we engage in the act of healing. Please give this invitation to join us some prayer.
The Rev. Lyn Crow will remain onsite for both services. All will be fed and nourished, thanks be to God.

Anne Sawyer elected dean of St. John's Cathedral
[The Episcopal News] The vestry of St. John's Cathedral, Los Angeles, has elected the Rev. Anne Sawyer as dean, Bishop John Harvey Taylor announced in a May 21 message welcoming the vote and confirming his full approval.
"“Dean Sawyer’s leadership has been a blessing and revelation – as a pastor during a time of transition, a prophet of the justice and love of our God in Christ, and an institution builder with a bracing vision for the future of St. John’s Cathedral," Taylor said. "I give thanks for her and for lay leaders who called her as dean, which I had the inestimable pleasure of affirming.”
Sawyer has served the cathedral since 2023 as interim priest in charge, most recently under the provision of "special circumstances" that allowed for her permanent appointment. Juneteenth Celebration

The Program Group on Black Ministry and the UBE H. Belfield Hannibal Chapter warmly invite the entire Diocese to join them for a special Juneteenth Celebration at St. John’s Cathedral.
Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates freedom and the ongoing pursuit of equality. This gathering will include prayer, reflection, music, and an opportunity to honor the rich contributions of Black communities to the Church and society.
Come celebrate and rejoice together as one diocesan family. A reception with food and fellowship will follow the program.

Installation of a Bishop

Newly consecrated Bishop Gallardo L. will be installed at St. John's Cathedral with a reception to follow. Prior to the service, Bishop Gallardo L. will be doing a Walk of Love and Truth beginning at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Commons in Echo Park to the Cathedral (4.6 miles).
We welcome our diocesan community to join us at the Cathedral for this joyous occasion!

Nuevo Amanecer 2026
Latino Ministries Conference
Mark your calendar for this biennial gathering that celebrates Latino ministries across The Episcopal Church. Nuevo Amanecer 2026 will feature two smaller and focused conferences, both offering the same workshops focused on visionary leadership and equipping churches, as well as on embracing dignity and diversity.
In addition to lay leaders, clergy, diocesan missioners, parish staff, and church planters, those interested in learning about Latino ministries are also encouraged to attend.
Sept. 28-Oct. 1: Kanuga retreat center, Hendersonville, North Carolina
Nov. 9-12: Camp Allen, Navasota, Texas. St. John's sexton & verger Heyden Morales would be present as part of the leadership team on this one, speak with him after services if you plan on attending. Bishop-elect Antonio Gallardo would be attending as well.

Vote Faithfully Networking Calls

[Register Here] On the first Thursday of each month from June through November, The Episcopal Church's Public Policy and Witness team will host a series of “Vote Faithfully” calls to support voter engagement in ways consistent with Episcopal values.
During the calls, hosts will share resources and ideas to help congregations promote voting and civic participation while remaining nonpartisan (avoiding support for specific political parties, candidates, or platforms).
The first call, on June 4, will feature Kent Anker, chief legal officer of The Episcopal Church, speaking about compliance with IRS rules regarding election engagement by religious organizations.

This important role helps ensure the cathedral remains a welcoming place for worship, prayer, and local gatherings. Responsibilities include facility cleaning, basic maintenance, event setup, and helping prepare spaces for services and activities.
