Lent Book Studies!!

Signup sheets can be found at the Connection Desk

Wrap your arms around the Good News for Lent. Join us for this 6 week book study!

During Lent each year, Christians give up something as an act of sacrifice and spiritual discipline. Often it is something like chocolate, knowing that after Easter Sunday they can once again enjoy what they have given up. James Moore challenges readers to take it further—to give up something spiritually that they would be better off not doing. He invites all to seek God's help to focus on eliminating one habit or attitude that is destructive. Imagine giving up envy, jealousy, self-pity, apathy, procrastination, gossip, resentment, or negative thinking, how much better life would be.

The forty days of Lent are ideal to use this study and prepare to give up something bad while preparing to fully embrace the Good News of Easter. Study includes seven sessions, one for each Sunday in Lent and Easter Sunday. Each session features a Scripture reference, a personal reading, questions for personal reflection or group study, and closing prayer.

Study times and leaders include:

  • Monday, March 10th with Karen Camp 6 PM in the Library

OR

  • Tuesday, March 11th with Betty Smith 10:30 AM in the Fitzgerald Room

Join us starting Thursday, March 13 at 3:00 PM as we delve into how forgiveness has the power to change our lives with the book study on Forgiveness: Finding Peace Through Letting Go by Adam Hamilton. This is a 4 week book study.

It is impossible to walk through this life without hurting someone or being hurt by someone. God, of course, knows this fact, which explains why Jesus chose to teach about forgiveness. Yet, there is nothing more crippling than holding on to resentment and anger. They have the power to consume all aspects of our lives. In his book author Adam Hamilton, reminds us that forgiveness is a gift that we give ourselves; and it is only when we learn to forgive others and ourselves can we truly be forgiven. Forgiveness reconnects the broken pieces of our lives and possibly offers us the most complete picture of God.
