A Message from the Interim Dean and Priest-in-Charge

Dear Friends In Christ,

Last September the Vestry of St. John’s voted to change my title from PIC to PIC under special circumstances (USC), which allows me to be considered for the call of your next dean. As you know, in the Episcopal Church the call process is always mutual. You have been discerning how God may be calling St. John's Cathedral; and I have been discerning how God may be calling me. Bishop Taylor has said that it is time for us to make a decision.

At the vestry meeting this month on 19 May, the vestry will meet with diocesan staff and vote on whether to extend a call to me as your next dean. The question is whether to call me as your next dean or launch a search to call someone else. The vestry must make this decision before a search can happen. If the vestry decides on having a search, I am no longer eligible to be considered and will leave by February next year.

I've been and remain committed to supporting the members of St. John’s in their call of your next dean. You’ve worked hard and have been thoughtful about where you have been, what you have loved the most about the past, and what you might be willing to let go. You’ve been discerning how and where God might be calling you forward.

This announcement was made last week, and I encourage you to share your feelings with a vestry member over the next week or two.

Please know, this decision is not a popularity contest; and just because you feel one way or the other, other members may or may not agree. I am at peace with whatever direction the Spirit moves. We do ask that you speak for yourself and encourage others to do the same. It’s the only way we hear what everyone has to say.

Your vestry will then take what they have heard from all of you and cast a vote.

I will be holding you in my prayers and ask that you do the same for me. I believe that the Spirit led me to serve as your Interim Dean. I will always treasure this time we have had together. Thank you for this blessing. I am excited for St. John’s and can see your bright future ahead.

With love and blessings,

Anne+

Sunday Flowers: Spreading Cheer

Flowers have long been a beautiful expression of love, and most Sundays they brighten worship at St. John’s Cathedral.

We’d love to share this beauty beyond our walls—because love is meant to be given away.

A “Flower Power Crew” is being formed to help restart a delivery of our sanctuary flowers to the Downtown Women’s Center just like devoted parishioner Bob Bowen used to do. The center is just a short drive from the Cathedral. It’s a simple but meaningful way to bring encouragement and care to others in our community.

If you feel called to help spread the love of Christ in this way, please consider joining us. Contact the church office to get involved.
