Minneapolis Fed Requests Survey Responses on Construction Conditions

As the COVID-19 outbreak evolves, the Minneapolis Fed is gauging economic effects on the construction sector, a bellwether for the broader economy.

Please take 5 minutes to provide greater understanding on business conditions for your firm. If you receive this survey alert from multiple industry partners, please only respond to the survey once.

All responses are anonymous, and results will be shared with AGC of Minnesota when available.
New AGC Form Contracts

The AGC Contracts Committee has been working to create a new Owner-Contractor form, which will be perfect for times when contractors need a Minnesota industry short form to work directly with owners. This form will also be available as part of a full suite of contracts: Owner-General-Subcontractor-Material Purchases-ITO.

The new contracts will be released in the next month. If you currently are using an AGC form contract, we are extending that license through March 2021.

Suicide Prevention in the Construction Industry

The construction industry has the one of the highest rates of suicide among all industries, only behind oil and gas extraction. Suicide in construction is more than three times higher than the rate for the general population in the United States.

The reality in construction is that more workers die by suicide annually than die by all other occupational fatalities on jobsites. What can be done to address this alarming trend? AGC partner CSDZ has created risk assessments and resources to help contractors focus on the mental wellbeing of their workforce.
LEGISLATIVE NEWS
State's Budget Forecast Out Next Week

Next Friday, February 26th, MN Management and Budget (MMB) will release the latest economic forecast for the state. Their numbers and projections will set the stage for the House and the Senate to present their ideas to balance the state’s bottom line. Last November, MMB estimated the state was sitting at a $1.2 billion deficit. Since then, the state has received positive budgetary news. Revenues from individual income tax, corporate taxes, and sales tax came in higher than expected last month.

House and the Senate committees are beginning to hear more bills as key deadlines approach in March. Most legislative work is continuing in a virtual manner.

AGC’s next Legislative Committee meeting will be on Thursday, March 4 at 11:30 AM. Any member is invited to attend. Please contact Laura Ziegler for the Zoom information.
