March 17, 2019 - Second Sunday in Lent
A Strong Hand of Love:
Evil, Suffering, and The Gospel
Sunday, March 17: 10:15 a.m.
Parish Hall
“If the Gospel is true, it is true for everybody.” You may have heard that before. Maybe not. Maybe such an assumption is alarming to your ear. During the season of Lent, we put this preacher’s adage to the test as we explore the ways the Gospel addresses real tragedy and horrors in society and personal life.

This week our speaker is Rev. Russell J. Wohlever to share his experiences as a chaplain for over 10 years at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital and how he has seen God’s sacred loving presence permeating every space of the hospital.

Sunday's Music
The Psalms are filled with both lament and praise, often expressed with fervent emotion. This Sunday’s choir anthem “Hide Not Thou Thy Face” recalls David’s prayer in Psalm 27: “Hide not thy face from me; put not thy servant away in anger; thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.” (KJV). Rich with Renaissance polyphony, this Lenten gem by English organist/composer Richard Farrant (c. 1530-1581) has been a choir staple for 400 years. Farrant spent most of his career in service to the Royal Family, serving at the Chapel Royal and St. George’s Chapel (Windsor Castle). Also a theatrical producer, he founded London’s Blackfriars Theatre (1576), home to the outstanding children’s companies of the Elizabethan era.
