November 18, 2018 - Proper 28
In Earnest
The Search Process for our new Rector is coming down, we hope, to its conclusion. I need to make you aware, however, that once a final decision has been made, a call issued and accepted, an official announcement will likely be delayed as all the details are worked out. You will be kept in the loop as much as possible. It is indeed an exciting time!

Our pledge drive is off to a great start but is far from where we need to be for the 2019 budget.  While this is not unusual, it does make us all rest a bit easier when we are adequately funded. Currently we have 203 pledges, totaling $1,086,381.  Next week we will be following up with those we have yet to hear from. We want to wrap up our campaign as we go into December. Your help to make the follow up a simple process will, of course, be much appreciated.

The Finance Committee is working on the 2019 proposed budget. At the January meeting, the Vestry will adopt or modify it. The final budget will be presented at the Annual Parish meeting on January 27, hopefully chaired by our new Rector.

Thanksgiving is a unique blend of the civic and religious. We were taught from kindergarten on that it is rooted in a meal that took place in 1621. It was then proclaimed as a national holiday by George Washington in 1789. In 1863 Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a federal holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November, and Congress sanctioned it as a legal holiday in 1941.  It was included in the first American Book of Common Prayer, and prayers were appointed for the first Thursday of November “or such other day as might be set by civil authority.”

We will gather on the eve of Thanksgiving, November 21 at 6:00 p.m. to give thanks. I hope you will be able to leave your preparations (but I’ll understand if you can’t) to join us. The offering received at that service has been designated by our Bishop for the Diocese of Honduras School of Theology. Please click this link for further information. Checks should be made payable to All Saints with “Honduras" written in the memo section.

I know there is a lot going on in the life of the parish and in your lives as well. So much to pray over in our nation and so much to give thanks for. As tiny Tim prayed in the Dickens classic: “God bless us, everyone!"

2019 Pledge Update

As of Sunday, November 11, 203 parish families have returned their pledge cards totaling $1,086,381. Thankfully this is ahead of where we were last year and we are hoping and praying the trend will continue so we can finalize our 2019 budget. If you have not returned your pledge card, please help us reach our 2019 Budget by returning it via mail, email ( [email protected] ), voice mail 407-398-3798 or online . Please continue to keep our Vestry, Search Committee and pledges in your prayers. All of us should have the goal for our next rector to have a secure 2019 budget in place by December 31, 2018. We promise to keep you updated each week on our progress. We hope and pray that you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

ANTHEM STORY: STEAL AWAY
Singer, composer and choirmaster Dale Adelmann is a shining star of contemporary sacred music. This Sunday’s choir anthem  “Steal Away”  showcases his skills as a choral arranger. The moving text of this classic spiritual -- scored for 8-part harmony in spots -- expresses our longing for the peace and joy of heaven. Well-known in Anglican church music circles, Dr. Adelmann is the Canon for Music at St. Philip’s (Episcopal) Cathedral, Atlanta, and a frequent conductor and clinician for the Royal College of Church Music.
