We are incredibly thankful for our teachers at Lake Lure Classical Academy.
Teachers are individuals who have chosen public service for their professions, and every day they work incredibly hard and put in long hours to help our young people develop their intellects and talents and discover their passions.
As the saying goes: it is not just a job; it’s a vocation.
Even though words alone cannot adequately express the gratitude that we should all have for our teachers, they do go a long way.
Would you please take the time this coming week to thank your child’s teachers? Write a note or send an email and just let them know that you are appreciative of all of the good that they do. You can also drop off cards and notes at the front office.

Developing Leadership Skills in our Young Raptors
Each week, students from across different grade levels are given the opportunity to develop their leadership and speaking skills by helping out with morning announcements.
The students share important information, athletic updates, and fun facts, and they lead the school in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Enjoy these photos below, and please be sure to let your children know how proud we are of their leadership abilities.

Middle School Science Teacher: Evelyn Warner
Now in her 5th year, Evelyn Warner is LLCA’s middle school Science teacher and since January, she has also been working with our K-5 students, teaching STEM classes.
Asked what she loves about LLCA, she says “The community, the beautiful setting, and getting to be a part of my students' lives, even after they move onto high school.”
A fun personal fact about Mrs. Warner: She plays Roller Derby for Asheville's team - the Blue Ridge Roller Derby. Her "Derby name" is Madame Furie, inspired by famed female scientist Marie Curie.
What are students learning from Mrs Warner lately? K-2 has been learning about habitats and the needs of animals, including food, shelter, and water. After talking about what animals need in their habitats, the students play a game that simulates how tough it is to be a deer!

LLCA's 5th Graders are Reading & Inventing
Students in the fifth grade are reading Ruby Goldberg’s Bright Idea by Anna Humphrey. The book is about a precocious fifth-grader that is determined to win the science fair at her school. Chapter one introduces Ruby’s preoccupation with invention when she attempts to build a machine that will automatically turn a page in a book that she was supposed to be reading. She called her invention the Page-o-Matic and parts go flying when she tries to test it in class.
Mrs. Sarratt’s and Mrs. Fowler’s students picked up where Ruby left off by wiring and testing a simple circuit that uses some of the same parts as Ruby’s invention. They explored how energy is converted from one form to another, how all the parts of a system need to work together to perform a task, and how an invention needs to be efficient in contrast to being silly.

Making Music by Making Instruments
Mr. Edwards’s 9th Grade Physical Science class finished up their study of waves and sound by building musical instruments.
Pictured are Adler Knight, left, and Gavin Odel, right, who combined together to build a Cajon (box drum) and an acoustic guitar.
Other instruments built by students included a pan flute, three ukuleles, various drums, and a stand-up washtub bass. To complete the project, students had to perform a song while playing their instruments.
