Winter Weather & Changes to the School Schedule: What you Need to Know

As the possibility of winter weather approaches, we want parents and families to understand our school closing procedures and what to expect for extended school closures.
Each time there is a potential for hazardous weather conditions, the administrators execute our school’s emergency plan. This consists of notifying parents via Bright Arrow, posting on Facebook and our school website, as well as notifying the following news outlets: WLOS, Channel 13, Fox Carolina 21, WYFF - News 4, WSPA, Channel 7.
The decision to close school due to inclement weather is reached once the school is made aware of road conditions, power outages, and other factors. We also closely monitor other school closures in our surrounding areas.
Often, if inclement weather causes school closures in Rutherford, Polk, or Henderson Counties, LLCA will typically follow suit.
We are asking all families to keep the school updated with changes to phone numbers and email addresses since this is how we primarily communicate school information.
Monday, Jan. 17th is Martin Luther King Jr Day, so school is already closed.
However, depending on weather conditions for Tuesday, school administrators will communicate as early as possible in the event that we close school on that day or have a delayed start.
We hope that each of you will be safe during this time and that you enjoy this extended weekend with your families.
COVID Numbers from Jan. 3-14, 2022

  • Students testing positive for COVID: 25
  • Students quarantined due to exposures: 29
  • Teachers or staff testing positive for COVID: 4

The majority of these positive cases are related directly to exposures outside of school.
During its last meeting, the LLCA School Board voted to continue the mask requirement for all students and staff when indoors and on the busses. The board will continue to monitor and assess the situation each month.
Other area school districts that previously shifted to a mask optional protocol are now back to a mask requirement policy for all students and employees.
It is important to send your child to school with a mask to help us limit the number of days students miss due to COVID.
Note that LLCA offers COVID tests at school - the rapid test and the PCR test. For more information contact Nurse Redmon at [email protected] or by calling the school at (828) 625-9292.
