Important Announcement from our Board of Directors Concerning the LLCA Mask Policy

We're Building the New School Calendar for 2022-2023 and We Want to Hear from YOU!
The school administrators and faculty want to thank all parents and families for their understanding of this past week’s school closure due to the inclement weather. Since our school calendar is always developed with several days built into it to cover school closures, we will not have to make up these days at the end of the school year. However, in the event that we have additional school closures over the next four months, there is the possibility that any additional days would have to be made up at the end of the year.
As we work on creating the 2022-2023 school year calendar, we would like to invite parents to fill out a short survey regarding key dates. Your opinion matters to us and we would like to hear from you before finalizing the new school year calendar. Share your opinion by clicking on this link: 2022-2023 School Calendar
We will share the 2022-2023 school calendar once it has been approved by our Board of Directors.
A look at COVID Numbers Across the LLCA Service Area:

Our current data from the CDC has the following counties, as of 1/20/22, at the following Covid-19 positivity rate:
Rutherford - 34.52%
Polk - 32.71%
Henderson - 31.03%
We are fortunate that this variant is not as aggressive as the Delta variant. However, this variant remains far more contagious. With our beautiful snow, we are hopeful that it gave everyone a chance to laugh, relax and naturally stay at home! Hopefully, this will help reduce our rates. Other ways to reduce rates here in school are to encourage proper handwashing and/or sanitizing, proper mask-wearing, (not under the nose and not on the chin), and continuing to maintain a social distance of three feet apart in school.
Families, we appreciate your support as we all work hard to keep our students safe and in school. LLCA follows guidelines from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services through our Strong Schools Toolkit, below.
Note that LLCA offers COVID tests at school - the rapid test and the PCR test. For more information contact Nurse Redmon at [email protected] or by calling the school at (828) 625-9292.
For your Health:
February is Heart Health Month and Dental Health Month. This will be a time of education and promotion of a healthy heart and also dental health and hygiene.
Hopefully, your students will share with you what they learn!

It is time to Vote for our LLCA Teacher of the Month
Your vote determines which teacher deserves to be our Teacher of the Month. The teacher selected receives a “goody bag” filled with treats and special recognition. Please take a moment to Vote Now for the LLCA January Teacher of the Month
Our December Teacher of the Month was Helen Payne, 6th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher. Mrs. Payne joined us this year after teaching for Polk County Schools. She brings literature and history to life for her students. Congratulations Mrs. Payne!

A Growing Concern in High School!
In Mr. Calhoun's Horticulture Class, students have been learning how to propagate plants from cuttings.  Pictured are Thanksgiving and Christmas cacti that students have started from cuttings that came from two different parent plants.  Students have also been learning the differences between monocots and dicots and are currently comparing their germination rates and characteristics after germination.
Upcoming Games & Spring Tryouts on the Horizon
The next two weeks will be very busy for basketball teams. We have games at home on January 24th, 28th, and 31st., and on Feb.1st. In addition, we hit the road to Pinnacle on Jan. 25th. After that, the playoffs will begin. Please come out and support your Raptors!

We still need volunteers for several games for concessions and the gate.

Also, keep in mind that Spring sports will start on Feb. 14th, and tryouts and open fields can be held before that, so please make sure you have physicals ASAP. Forms are on our website and can also be requested from Coach Todd or Coach Ozzie.
We need YOU in 2022!
