"Alone we can do so little,
together we can do so much”
Sept. 17th, 2021
Good morning, Raptor Families

Those words of Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” are words that are emblazoned on this year's staff T-shirts.
We choose these words because it reinforces our deep belief that the mission of educating students cannot be done in isolation.
It takes all of us to truly educate children. Family involvement and support are vital to having a thriving school. We want our families to know that we always need and want your involvement and your feedback. We must collectively commit to the commonly shared goal of educating your child.
When you have a concern or you perceive that something isn't going the way you believe it should, or if something is not meeting your expectations, then reach out to us!
The Administration Team is here to help navigate this school year, and here to keep communication open between families and the school.
Remember, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”
Covid/School Health Update for Sept. 17th
LLCA continues to use our best mitigation practices to maintain a safe and healthy school environment.
We are following guidelines from the NC Department of Health & Human Services Public Schools Toolkit, linked below.
LLCA serves students from several counties.
In order to maintain guidance similar to each county's Health Department, LLCA follows the Toolkit guidelines, along with specific guidance from the Rutherford County Health Department.
With ever-evolving information and viral mutation, this information is fluid and will change when needed. When there is a significant change in policy we will inform families. Currently, there are 10 positive Covid cases within our student population. We also have 15 students in quarantine. Some students have had outside community and household exposure, but we have had some voluntary, recreational exposure outside of the classrooms.

QUICK LINKS

Say Something!
All middle and high school students will soon receive training in the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS). Sandy Hook Promise’s no-cost "Say Something" program teaches middle and high school students to recognize the warning signs of someone at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to say something to a trusted adult to get help. This Say Something Parent Brochure provides information on how you as a parent can help support your child and our school in this endeavor.

Please Help us Feed a Raptor!
Bringing a lunch to school might be something that is easily taken for granted, but the reality is that not every student in our Raptor family has enough to eat. And because we are a family, we're inviting you to donate nutritious food items for school lunches. Our Family & Consumer Science class can prepare sandwiches, vegetables, and fruits for bagged lunches, but we need the food to fill the bags! We are in need of sandwich meats, cheeses, vegetables that can be consumed raw, fruit, yogurt, and granola bars. We also need lunch bags and sandwich baggies. You can drop off these items in the car line. Monetary donations earmarked for this cause are also welcome and greatly appreciated.
News from the Little Raptors Kindergarten Department
Kindergarten students are learning about warm and cool colors. They have been learning painting skills. They will be learning how to hold and cut carefully with scissors. Then they will learn to trace and cut out leaf shapes from their warm color paper and then gluing the leaves onto the cool color paper.
Elementary Update:
Our First through Fifth Grade students have and continue to learn all about different art forms and art applications. Take a peek to see what the kids are learning in different grade levels.
P.S. More pics to follow next week.
The Competition Continues:
Please sign up for CANVAS and PowerSchool. The 1st grade level with all parents/guardians to sign up for both platforms will get a field day experience! Your children should be prepared to help you!

Thanks to all of our families who participated in parent-teacher conferences.
If you were unable to attend please contact your child’s Homeroom teacher and schedule an alternate day and time.

Middle School 6th grade students are completing their Ancient Roman Mosaics and preparing to launch into the next project, a short one. They will be researching old and sometimes ancient phrases and sayings to discover the meaning behind them. They will then interpret and illustrate their chosen phrase. Basically, they will be “Meme”-ing the meaning, in reverse.
High School Students are Talking Trash!
On Friday, September 24th, our high school students will go out into our community to pick up trash.
LLCA is proud to be participating in the county’s annual Trashbowl competition. We live in a beautiful area, and we want to keep it clean.
Please have your child return his/her permission slip to his/her advisor on or before Wednesday, September 22nd.

Career Cafe is off to a Great Start
Come share what you love about your job or career. We have high school juniors and seniors anxious to hear from you. Contact Assistant Principal Michael Smith for more information!
Yearbook ordering & Ad Sales Now Available
It's that time of the year to think about the school yearbook. Online ordering is available now. And, as always, families may purchase an ad in the yearbook to honor their child.
Proceeds from ad sales go toward offsetting the expense associated with the production of the yearbook and allows for additional color pages.
Ad rates will go up after September.

LLCA Students Invited to Flock to the Rock
Chimney Rock Park’s annual birding event, Flock to the Rock, is this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 18th from 10 am to 3 pm. The event celebrating fall bird migration includes beginner bird walks, kid-friendly family activities, and programs with live animal ambassadors. Flock to the Rock is included with Park admission, which is always free for our LLCA students when they show their Rockin’ Raptor Pass!

Rockin Raptor Day, Sept. 25th!
Chimney Rock Park loves hosting our LLCA families - so much so, they’re setting aside a day just for YOU. On Sep 25th, the Park will host its first Rockin’ Raptor Day of the school year, where LLCA students can bring one adult into the Park with them free of charge. This year, Rockin’ Raptor Day falls on the National Take a Child Outside week, which means there will be a free, guided hike at 11 am on the Hickory Nut Falls trail as well. Chimney Rock Park is an incredibly beautiful place to enjoy and appreciate on a regular basis. Be sure to take advantage of their partnership and generosity toward LLCA families.
Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Cross Country Event

Once a year LLCA hosts a Cross Country event and this year's date is Sept. 22nd.
To carry out this event and to support one of our hardest working teams we need at least ten volunteers.
We need volunteers from about 3 pm (or as soon as you can get there) to around 5:30 pm.
Please let Coach Parke or Ozzie McFarland know if you can help with the annual Cross Country race.
News from the LLCA PTO:

With strong collaboration between parents, teachers, and staff, the LLCA PTO is off to a strong start beginning with the launch of its Teacher Needs Campaign.
The campaign features a dedicated PTO project page where each teacher and staff member with classroom needs has a dedicated link to a Signup Genius page.
On this web page, parents and community members can sign up to help. Supplies can be dropped off or shipped directly to the school.

From school supplies and food pantry items to musical instruments and toiletries, the needs are great. The initial response from parents has been wonderful, but more support is needed.

Additionally, we're excited to announce that we now have a dedicated PTO webpage housed on the school's website. You can keep up with our activities and upcoming meetings on this page. Check it out here or find it anytime in the dropdown menu under the Parents & Students tab of LLCharter.org

Save the date:
The next PTO meeting: Tuesday, October 12th at 5:30 pm. Location, TBD.

If you are interested in joining the PTO this year,
