Dear Cornerstone Family,

This has been a very challenging time for me and our family as we deal with the news of Ashleigh’s illness. Just this past summer we spent a week with her enjoying the outdoors, swimming in the ocean, and having a good family reunion, not knowing that the next time we would see her in person she would be clinging to life.

We rushed to see her again, wondering if this would be our last time with her. The past few weeks we have been learning what this disease means for her. The suddenness of all this has caught us all by surprise and has caused us to cling tightly to God’s word. Psalm 46:1-3 reads:

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling."

Passages like this give us confidence to trust in him. We have been on an emotional roller coaster mixed with tears and brief times of joy and laughter. The sorrows of this world only make us long for a better world! A world where God promises to wipe away every tear from our eyes and a world where death is no more and there is no more mourning or crying or pain, for these will pass away (Rev. 20:4). The hope of the Lord is our strength.

The Lord is also teaching us many things. We have seen the power of prayer at work. We believe your prayers and our prayers are one of the reasons she is still with us today. The way you can help and encourage us the most is through prayer. Thank you so much for your love, support and encouragement. Through it all, God has given us his strength for this journey. Each day is a gift.
Property Sale
I want to share with you some very exciting news. As remarkable as our story is at Cornerstone, the Lord continues to do amazing work beyond what we could ever imagine. I shared with you that we received an offer to purchase our Quivira property at a price that was too good to pass up.

We expected the sale to go well into the new year, but the buyers came back to us two weeks ago and said they wanted to close by the end of the year. Last Thursday the deal closed. We were able to sell the property for $1.6 million, and after closing costs, we received $1.53 million! Praise God from whom all blessings flow. He continues to shower us with his graciousness.

May there be no doubt that God is doing something amazing in our midst. 2020 has been an incredibly challenging year, but God has helped us persevere and has provided for all our needs. He has richly blessed us and has provided a great opportunity for our future. What a way to end the year!
Practicing "Bold Faith"
We have started our sequel to "Bold Faith," exploring the way our salvation changes everything about us. Nothing about us is left unchanged by the power of the gospel.

This week we will see how we are to live compassionately towards others. We will rejoice with those who rejoice and we will weep with those who weep. Jesus wept when he heard the news that Lazarus had died. Jesus wept when he comprehended the condition of mankind when he entered Jerusalem. We have a God who weeps. When we live boldly by faith, we show a little bit of Jesus to the world. We are his witnesses. Let’s strive, by God’s grace, to be more like Jesus in 2021.

Happy New Year,
Sheldon MacGillivray
