Dig Anyway: Finding Joy in Faithful Work

Grace and Peace, Beloved St. Lukers,

We are finally catching a glimpse of fall (maybe!) — those occasional cool breezes that surprise us in the morning and afternoon, the temperatures dropping ever so slightly below melting (😉), the taste of pumpkin spice showing up in just about everything, and the sense that the season is shifting as the days get shorter. And right on cue, pumpkins are coming back to St. Luke’s! Pumpkins are scheduled to arrive next Wednesday and the St. Luke’s Pumpkin Patch will open on Friday, October 17! Soon our back lot will be filled with orange joy — families taking photos, children playing among the rows, and volunteers serving faithfully to make it all happen. Yay, fall is in the air!

As we welcome this new season, we’re also continuing our October sermon series, Serve Joyfully, exploring what it means to find joy in the everyday acts of faithful service. Sometimes that joy doesn’t come with celebration or applause. More often, it shows up in small choices, quiet acts, and unseen work — the moments when we simply keep showing up and doing what God has placed before us.

This week’s message, “Dig Anyway,” takes us to...

St. Luke's Week in Review

Blending Fellowship and Service

We are blessed by how beautifully St. Luke’s United Women in Faith blend fellowship and service! From supporting children and youth through contributions to the Edgewood Children's Ranch, to gathering for their fun annual Great Exchange—where treasures are swapped, lunch is shared, and items leftover are given to neighbors who could use them—these ladies lift up one another and the community with joy and generosity.

We’re so grateful for the ways they serve, connect, and shine together. They also want to extend their heartfelt thanks to you, our church community, for your continued support of their fundraising efforts and ministry!

A Pawsitively Wonderful Time

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Blessing of the Animals this week! We loved meeting so many sweet pups—and even one very special tortoise! Each pet reminded us of God’s creativity and the joy, laughter, and love we experience through all creatures.

What a beautiful way to give thanks for the companions who bring so much life and warmth into our lives.

Epic Music, Sandi Patty, and Unforgettable Memories in Nashville

Members of our Sanctuary Choir represented St. Luke’s beautifully in Nashville, TN this week, taking part in an incredible concert tribute to Sandi Patty at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center! They joined a 525-member choir alongside Christian artists like Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Natalie Grant, TaRanda Green, Selah, and Point of Grace—all celebrating Sandi’s legendary career.

Tributes also came from icons including Kristin Chenoweth, Larnelle Harris, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Nicole Mullen, and Wayne Watson, and our Voctave friends brought the house down with two stunning medleys of Sandi’s songs!

Between rehearsing and performing, the group experienced the best of Music City—singing hymns at the Ryman Auditorium, touring the Country Music Hall of Fame, cruising on the General Jackson Showboat, and even attending the Dove Awards!

It was a joyful trip filled with music, laughter, and connection. Thank U to our Choir for sharing their gifts and representing St. Luke’s with such heart.
