Becoming a Circles Ally: A Reflection by Mark Adelhelm

I have been a Circles volunteer, or Ally, for a little over a year now, and I can honestly say it has been an incredibly impactful journey for me.

As an Ally, you're paired with a Circles Leader, an individual dedicated to transforming their economic situation, who embarks on a 12-18 month plan to start their journey out of poverty. In my case, I was matched with a young mother of four whose husband recently graduated from Circles himself. Over the past year, I've had the privilege of getting to know them, understanding their struggles, and witnessing their aspirations for a better future.

Early in our training, we are reminded that the essence of this program is the ministry of "being present." Circles Leaders face numerous challenges that can limit their options and hinder their progress. Throughout this journey, it can be hard to remain open and unembarrassed by the obstacles and setbacks they encounter. As an Ally, you realize that it's crucial to be supportive and available, even if it's not always clear how to help.

St. Luke's Week in Review

St. Lukers Unite for Service

Thank you to all the St. Lukers who joined us at U.S. Hunger's second annual MLK Day of Service Million Meal Pack event at the Orange County Convention Center earlier this week!

This incredible event brought the community together in honor of Dr. King's legacy to help pack over one million meals for families in need across Central Florida and the United States. It was a powerful experience, highlighting how service can uplift others and support vulnerable communities.

An Unforgettable Evening of Music

We want to thank the amazing Bethune-Cookman University Concert Chorale for sharing their gifts with us once again! This talented group of students presented a powerful and moving performance, blending classical, gospel, jazz, and works by African American composers into an inspiring evening we’ll never forget.

We are truly blessed to have been part of this remarkable experience and can’t wait to welcome the Chorale back to St. Luke’s in the future!

Sharing Food, Laughter, and Heartfelt Conversations

Our Men's Ministry recently gathered to kick off the year, and it was truly something special to see so many men come together in community!

Moments like these are a reminder that we’re not meant to walk this journey alone. Through fellowship, we find encouragement, support, and a deeper sense of purpose. We’re excited to see how this ministry continues to grow and bring people together in meaningful ways!

If you missed it, don't worry! Our first Men’s Ministry Breakfast of the year is coming up on February 20, and we’d love for you to join us. RSVP by clicking here, and let’s keep building this incredible community together.

  • "Your Week with St. Luke's" Podcast - This week, Pastors Jenn and Melissa explore the theme of "Be Bold" as they discuss how boldness requires preparation and readiness, drawing inspiration from Jesus' ministry. The key Scripture is from Luke 4:14-21, where Jesus proclaims his mission by reading from Isaiah. This mission includes bringing good news to the poor, freedom to the oppressed, and equity for all—marking the start of his ministry with a bold and transformative declaration.
