Change Makers: Preparing Today to Serve Tomorrow

Dear St. Lukers,

Well, when asked to “do something”, you all absolutely step up to the plate! Our Change Makers Open House was a great success! Most everyone in worship came over to sign up for classes, studies, volunteer opportunities, and pick up a Hurricane Flood Bucket to fill! Thank you for your energy and passion!

This week started with everyone watching the potential of Tropical Storm Erin to become a hurricane and wondering what path it would take. I don’t know about you, but I’m always trying to watch all of those spaghetti models trying to time out the where and when. I was in a meeting this week as we discussed new information from FEMA and the state to know how to prepare to help if a storm hits Florida this fall. In the back of my mind, I kept hearing the call of this coming Sunday’s sermon, “Start Where You Are”, which is exactly the call Bishop Tom Berlin gave United Methodists at the annual conference when he issued the Flood Bucket Challenge.

One of the things Bishop Berlin said was that it’s Florida, we know a storm is coming, so let’s get what we know we will need then, and prepare it now. We know from history that when a storm hits, people need certain items: extra cleaning supplies, tarps, and other essentials. The idea is to have every United Methodist Church prepare Flood Buckets now and gather them in each district, so we know exactly who to call to get them to the places in need as soon as possible.

This Sunday, we are kicking off YOUR chance to help us complete our challenge...

St. Luke's Week in Review

Back to School

Thank you to the St. Lukers who volunteered last week at Meet the Teacher events at Mollie Ray and Maxey Elementary Schools, our Title 1 school partners.

Our amazing volunteers supported Parent Engagement activities by sharing food (donated by St. Luke’s through the Fill the Shelves initiative), assisting with translation, guiding families through the event, and distributing school uniforms.

There are many ways you can make an impact at Maxey or Mollie Ray—whether by volunteering in a classroom, serving as a mentor, or helping with special events. To learn more about how you can get involved, visit st.lukes.org/impact.

Exploring What's Ahead

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Fall Open House! On Sunday, the Welcome Hall was filled with conversation, fellowship, and plenty of coffee and donuts.

It was wonderful to see so many St. Lukers exploring what’s ahead this fall - signing up for classes, finding new small groups, learning about volunteer opportunities, and discovering new ways to grow in faith.

We can't wait to see how God uses these connections to inspire growth and make a lasting impact in our community.

What a Sunday!

Last week our Children's Ministry celebrated the kick-off of "Bible Buddies" and moved up to new grade-level classrooms! It was pure joy from start to finish as kids adopted their new cuddly buddies, made special memories, and took big steps in their new classes. We can't wait to see how our kids shine and grow in God's Word this year.

Do you have a kindergartener? Their chance to adopt a Bible Buddy is coming soon! Visit st.lukes.org/children to register them to receive their Bible and Buddy on September 7!
