Candlemas
The Presentation of Jesus Christ in the Temple
The Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This Friday , February 2nd at 6:00pm
Solemn High Mass by Candlelight

Dear St. Mary's family,

Our common life together as a Christian community is ordered and given meaning within the liturgical calendar of the Church. First it’s Advent, a season of waiting and expectation, then the joyful Twelve Days of Christmas celebrating the birth of Christ. The calendar then continues with the Wise Men and the Baptism of Jesus and the season of Epiphany. In the old days, the Christmas cycled formally ended on Candlemas, which is forty days after Christmas on February 2nd.

The Season of Lent at St. Mary's
Ash Wednesday
Mass and Imposition of Ashes
Wednesday, February 14th; 12:00pm and 7:00pm
Lent is an important time of penitence, self-denial, and self-examination for each of us as individuals, and as members of St. Mary's. Join us for a somber beginning to a Holy Lent.

Wednesdays at St. Mary's
Each Wednesday during Lent (beginning Feb 21st)
Stations of the Cross, 6pm
Bible Study and Light Soup Dinner at 6:30pm
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry invites all Episcopalians to join in reading the Scriptures together during Lent and Easter. The Good Book Club is an invitation to join in reading the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts during Lent-Easter 2018. Episcopalians will start reading Luke on Sunday, February 11 and read a section of Luke’s Gospel every day through the season of Lent. The season of Easter will be devoted to daily readings from the Book of Acts. Wednesday evenings during Lent, beginning February 21st, we will pray the Stations of the Cross, followed by a facilitated discussion of the readings from Luke or Acts since the last week. Suggested donation for the meal is $5. All are welcome!
  • If you are willing to help with the soup dinners, please click here to email Laura Iorg, or talk to her at church.

Private Confession
A priest will be available to offer spiritual guidance and sacramental confession each Saturday during Lent from 10:00am-10:45am in St. George's Chapel (Saturday, February 17, through Saturday, March 31st, inclusive). You may also schedule time with Fr. Charles by emailing him at charleseverson@gmail.com.
St. Mary's Website
A few months ago, St. Mary's launched a new website. It has been under considerable construction during the past few months, and we are pleased to formally launch it at this time!

Please take a moment and check it out! It can be found here. You will find descriptions of our ministries, service times, sermons, videos of our services, and other wonderful resources. Please extend a word of thanks to David Wilcox the next time you see him as he has spent quite a bit of time getting it up and running!
Baptism and Confirmation
If you are interested in pursuing the Christian life by being baptized, or if you would like your child to be baptized, now is the time! There will be a baptism preparation class during Lent at a time convenient for all. The baptisms are scheduled for the Easter Vigil (Sat., March 31) at St. Mary's.

Now is also the time to begin preparation for Confirmation or formal reception into The Episcopal Church. The next scheduled regional confirmation/reception service is Sat., April 7 at 2pm at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Kansas City.

Contact Fr. Charles for more information via email at charleseverson@gmail.com or via cell at 913-484-2084.
