Downtown Outreach Donations Needed
Downtown Outreach (DTO) provides hunger relief to our neighboring community, providing a hot meal in the parish hall and distributing bags of groceries from the food pantry in the parish basement two Saturdays per month. Like many pantries, there has been an increase in the number of people asking for help. You are invited to donate non-perishable items to support those in need in downtown Kansas City!

There will be a basket by the baptismal font in the back of the church to collect these items.

Suggested items are:
  • Boxed dinner meals (rice, Hamburger Helper, etc....not mac and cheese)
  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken)
  • Breakfast items (jams, peanut butter, cereal, boxed milk, bars)
  • Juice (large or individual servings)
  • Sweets (cookies, candy)
  • Hygiene products (feminine products, body and laundry soap)

Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Ask Padre!
This Sunday, immediately after the 10:00 Mass, you're invited to a new, informal adult forum called "Ask Padre."  This is an opportunity to ask Fr. Charles any questions you may have about why we do what we do in the liturgy, about St. Mary's, the wider Episcopal Church, how the Christian faith intersects with political issues, or anything else on your mind!  Immediately after the service, meet in the pew chairs by the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  When we are done, we can join the others in the parish hall for the reception.
Sunday, September 9th, 7 p.m.

On the second Sunday of each month at 7 p.m., an all-male choir will lead this beautiful choral service by candlelight.  Compline is the final  prayer service  of the day in the Church's ancient prayer cycle that marks the hours of the day. The service lasts about 20 minutes, and provides a peaceful way to end the weekend in contemplation and beauty.  After the service, all are invited to a local restaurant for food, drink, and discussion.

This service is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends to church who may be unwilling or unable to come on a Sunday morning. Please consider inviting a friend to the first service on September 9th!!

Volunteers Needed - Survey

I'm asking a personal favor for a friend. If you have a few spare moments, please consider helping him with this survey as part of his continuing studies.

Fr. Charles

The Rev. Jesse Abell, a priest in Massachusetts and now a doctoral student at Sewanee, is conducting a survey as part of his research for the DMin in Preaching program. He has designed an anonymous, online survey about preaching and needs volunteers to complete it. The survey will take about 25 minutes (and needs to be completed all at once) and can be taken from any computer, smartphone, or tablet with Internet access by going to the following link:  All responses are welcome, but those who are lifelong residents of Kansas City are especially welcome.  When asked to identify your congregation, please select “MO - Metro Kansas City (Diocese of Western Missouri).”
Sponsoring the altar flowers is a beautiful way to honor loved ones. Flowers are often given to mark special life events such as birth and birthdays; anniversary of a wedding, baptism, confirmation; the memory of a loved one; or as a thanksgiving for life’s blessings. Flowers are not a budgeted item in our church operations. The only funds available for use by this ministry are the funds you donate. You are invited to take part in this ministry!

If you'd like to sponsor altar flowers, click here for more information. In addition to the average Sunday,
Click on the Daily Office button to pray Morning and Evening Prayer, and to find daily Bible readings!
