Dear St. Mary's Family,

Over the past few weeks, the media has broadly reported on recent developments in the sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church. One church leader has publicly alleged that Pope Francis himself is guilty of covering up specific events and has called for his resignation.

While we are Episcopalians and not Roman Catholics, these horrific scandals affect the wider church in many ways. Several of our parishioners have made comments to me about how deeply the recent news has affected them. I think that this issue is significant enough to warrant a conversation. This Sunday, September 2nd, we will have an open discussion about this topic during Coffee Hour in the parish hall. Please bring your questions and concerns with you. If you would prefer to email me your questions or discuss things prior to Sunday, I'm here and available. My email address is, and my cell phone number is 913-484-2084.

Please join with me in praying for our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters as they work through these issues; let us especially pray for the victims.

See you in church.

Sunday, September 9th, 7 p.m.

On the second Sunday of each month at 7 p.m., an all-male choir will lead this beautiful choral service by candlelight.  Compline is the final  prayer service  of the day in the Church's ancient prayer cycle that marks the hours of the day. The service lasts about 20 minutes, and provides a peaceful way to end the weekend in contemplation and beauty.  After the service, all are invited to a local restaurant for food, drink, and discussion.

This service is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends to church who may be unwilling or unable to come on a Sunday morning. Please consider inviting a friend to the first service on September 9th!!

Sponsoring the altar flowers is a beautiful way to honor loved ones. Flowers are often given to mark special life events such as birth and birthdays; anniversary of a wedding, baptism, confirmation; the memory of a loved one; or as a thanksgiving for life’s blessings. Flowers are not a budgeted item in our church operations. The only funds available for use by this ministry are the funds you donate. You are invited to take part in this ministry!
