This Sunday I invite you to join us for in person worship at both the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services. The 10:30 a.m. service will be live-streamed. We will have an outdoor coffee hour, weather permitting. You are also invited to join us on Zoom at 9:00 a.m. for Morning Prayer and virtual coffee hour.
I am thrilled that Mike Choquette will be ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons on All Hallows Eve, October 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest. The link for the live stream service can be found in this newsletter. On the Feast of All Saints’ Sunday November 1, we will hold a “Celebration of New Ministry” at both the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. services.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for CROP Walk, and to those who made donations. Thanks to your generosity the St. Mary’s team of 12 walkers raised $1,615.00. (This includes the $1,185. raised online and another $430.00 donated by check. Thank you for helping us end hunger in our community.
The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Chicago has announced a dynamite slate of Candidates for the next Bishop, and you are invited to read about them and watch question and answer sessions with them online; those conversations are happening in November. (Links can be found below.) The election for the new bishop will happen on Saturday December 12. Bishop Lee is retiring on December 31, 2020. The consecration date of the new bishop has not been made public yet and it will be live-streamed. Please keep our Diocese in your prayers as we discern who our next bishop will be.

The Transition Committee has scheduled a series of virtual Candidate Conversations to provide the people of the diocese the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the candidates for bishop prior to the election. The conversations are scheduled for various times from November 5-14. Visit the Bishop Search and Transition website for more information and to see the complete schedule.
In addition the Diocese has announced a video project designed to help the bishop candidates learn more about the diocese and its people. All congregations are invited to submit a series of short video clips that tell the story of who they are, what makes them unique, how God is at work in their congregations, and more. We are looking for a few parishioners to make a 1-minute video clip on their smartphone. If you are interested in participating in this project, please contact Rev. Fran or Mike Choquette. Deadline for submissions is Thursday, October 15.
Annual Diocesan Convention
The 183rd Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago will be held online on Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is free and everyone is welcome to participate. All convention participants are required to register online. The deadline for registration is October 15. Complete convention information can be found on the 2020 Diocesan Convention page.
All Saints’ Day – Sunday, November 1
This year our All Saints’ Day Celebration is on Sunday, November 1, and there are several ways you can participate.
Prayer Flags: Colored paper prayer flags and markers will be available at the back of the church throughout the month of October. Please make a flag for anyone and everyone whom you would like us to remember on All Saints’ Day. You may make as many flags as you wish. The flags will be hanging in the church throughout the month of November. You may write the person’s name, dates, and/or a note about them.
Photos: In addition to the prayer flags, you are also invited to submit photos of those family members and friends to be remembered. You can email them to the office, or drop them off and we can scan them. If you submitted photos in prior years, there is no need to resubmit them – we will use them again, unless you tell us otherwise.
Deaths Since November 2019: During the Prayers of the People at our Sunday services on November 1, we will prayer for all those friends and loved ones who have died during the past year. There are forms in the back of church, or you may submit their names to the office via email or a phone call.

Recently we had a large maple tree that had to be cut down, and there is a very large pile of mulch that is available for the taking. If you can use any mulch in your yard, please stop by and load up! The pile is located next to the front sidewalk, just behind the wrought iron fence on McHenry Ave.

October 17 Churchyard Inurnments
We have two Churchyard inurnments scheduled for next Saturday, October 17. A service for former parishioner, George Lindberg, will be held in the Churchyard at 11:00 a.m. A second service, for Elmer Gilbertson, will be held in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
