The Ordination and Consecration of the Thirteenth Bishop of Chicago:

An Update on the Invitation Process from the Standing Committee

Anticipation and excitement is building as we get closer to celebrating the ordination and consecration of the Rev. Paula E. Clark as the Thirteenth Bishop of Chicago on Saturday, September 17. The Consecration Committee has been working hard to plan an event that will be inclusive and representative of our diocese.

Although the venue, the Grand Ballroom at the Westin Hotel in Lombard, is larger than St. James Cathedral, the originally proposed venue, it is still not large enough to seat our entire diocese. With that in mind, the Standing Committee is inviting each congregation to send up to eight individuals as representatives to the service. Please be aware that this will be a well-attended event, with up to 1,500 people in the space. COVID precautions dictate that all attendees and liturgical participants must be masked at all times. Additional precautions may include a security check upon entering the building.

For those who are unable to attend in person, the Ordination and Consecration Service will be livestreamed. Information will be forthcoming.

If you are interested in attending, please contact the church office.

Thank you for faithful service at the Food Pantry

Outreach to the community has always been core to the work at St. Mary’s. Starting in 1982 St. Mary’s was one of the eight founding churches of the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Over those years, so many of the parishioners have taken time out of their day to come and help stock, collect, and most important, distribute food to those in need in our community.

We currently have 11 people that give of their time to help at the pantry every month. And we have several more that come in as often as they can. I want to recognize those helpers but I don’t want to miss someone. So Thank you St. Mary’s for your support and a special Thank you to those that serve on a regular basis.

New Roof in the works!

You have no doubt heard over the years about our leaking roof in certain parts of the church. While we have been able to patch and have repairs made, this past Tuesday July 19, the Vestry voted to enter into a contract with Copley Roofing for a total roof replacement of the Great Hall and Education Wing.

This is a major step for our church and an investment in our property. Many details will need to be discussed and resolved but we are moving forward with this project. The time frame is still unknown given supply chain for materials. So, watch for additional information over the next few weeks.

As always direct any questions to your Wardens, Mike Higgins or Doug Murphy.
