"Waiting and Wondering"

Led by Rev. Laurel Gray

There’s a vulnerability to waiting, to hopes that have not yet been fulfilled, to the possibility in the unknown. Advent is the time leading up to Christmas, celebrated in many Christian denominations as a time of waiting. Amidst the bustle of mid-December, we’ll make space for this quiet wonder.

RE Updates

Dear UUCSW,

We are excited to announce that we have hired our wonderful Office Administrator, Colleen Munson, for a second role as Religious Education Coordinator. Colleen will work in collaboration with the RE Committee and Rev. Laurel to help shape our programming for kids and youth.

Colleen is herself a Unitarian Universalist, taught RE when her own kids were younger, and was an advisor to the Jr. High youth group at her home congregation. She is trained as a yoga instructor and has worked with children and adults with disabilities.

As the RE Coordinator, in addition to her existing work as our administrator, Colleen will help keep our RE program organized and running smoothly, providing administrative support to our volunteers as we collaborate to build a community that supports our young people and families.

If you haven't met Colleen in person, she'll be helping with our all ages pageant on December 18th.

We're looking forward to our continued partnership with Colleen!

~Rev. Laurel & the Board of Trustees

*Reminder: there is an RE meeting tonight - Thursday the 8th at 7pm on zoom that is open to all parents and volunteers who are interested in supporting RE

CHILI and CAROLING

Please join us after church on December 18th

We will go out and carol, and return to church for “stone soup chili.”

We will practice with Kala after church, and then go caroling at the Willows at 2pm. Easy caroling music will be provided. ALL those wanting to make a joyful noise are welcome! We will then return to the church for chili!

Please bring a home-sized batch of chili to be combined into one big batch (vegetarian and non-vegetarian will be separated so please mark clearly if vegetarian).

For questions, you can reach out to Vince Aquilino by email at vince.aquilino@gmail.com

New Year's Day Brunch

In lieu of a traditional service in the sanctuary on Sunday, Jan 1st, the program committee invites you to join us for a potluck brunch in the Chapel at 10:30. We will share some music, light the chalice and candles of joy and sorrow, and enjoy a few readings. As you are able, please bring a food item that is easy and ready to share such as fruit salad, muffins, breakfast casserole or bagels. Coffee, tea and cider will be provided. This is an in-person activity only, there will be no online content available.

We hope to see you there!

Coffee Hour and Greeters for December

We need to have smiling faces greeting our friends at the doors. Can you help? Please sign up using this sign-up genius link: Greeter SignUp Genius Link

What does being a greeter entail? Welcoming guests at our doors, making sure they know that masks are encouraged, especially if they are going to be singing. For visitors, offer a nametag, ask a bit about them and if they have any questions. Try to take a few moments after the service to get to know them. Ask if they would like to fill out a blue card so we have their contact information.

You are also responsible for collecting the offertory during the service. The collection goes to Susie Wells who is usually sitting in the back of the sanctuary. After doing the collection, take a quick headcount of people in the sanctuary and fill in the sheet at the back of the sanctuary.

Thank you for your help in making UUCSW a more welcoming congregation.

Community Announcements

Dear Members of Westborough’s Human Service Alliance,

Last Wednesday, I sent out a statement to the greater community through Westborough’s Town News listserv and had it posted on the Town’s website HERE. Today, I’m sharing the letter with you as a call to action. As HSA members, I ask you to join me and Youth and Family Services to help make Westborough safer and more affirming for LGBTQ+ people. I encourage you to consider how we can each make a difference to help save the lives of LGBTQ+ youth and create an environment where LGBTQ+ people are welcomed and affirmed. Please feel free to share widely.
