Legislative Update: Policy Deadline Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day for policy committees to hear and report to the floor non-fiscal bills introduced in their house.

BOMA California is updating the list of priority legislation impacting the commercial real estate industry as we enter this new phase, and will have more information in next week’s update.

Any questions related to legislation can be directed to Senior Director of Government Relations Skyler Wonnacott at swonnacott@cbpa.com.

SB 1103 Passes Senate Judiciary Committee With Amendments

This week, BOMA California actively advocated against Senate Bill 1103 (Menjivar; D-Van Nuys) the Detrimental Commercial Lease Mandates bill. BOMA California provided opposition testimony and met with every member of the Senate Judiciary Committee to express our concerns. Significant amendments were made to the bill just two hours prior to the committee hearing. The analysis released included 13 pages of amendments, which were agreed upon by Senator Menjivar. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party line vote with all of the democrats giving Senator Menjivar courtesy votes despite not knowing what the new amendments addressed or what the bill specifically now does.

OVERVIEW OF AMENDMENTS

CA Supreme Court to Rule on Anti-ULA Ballot Measure

BOMA California Administrator Matthew Hargrove was interviewed by Bisnow and featured in their recent article on the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act.

On May 8th, the California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments regarding the constitutionality of the real estate transfer tax, plus dozens of other recently enacted special taxes. Hargrove will be present on behalf of the commercial real estate industry. We will keep you informed on this critical issue as there are updates.
