The Church Council had a very busy meeting on May 19 and I wanted to provide an update on several of our activities.
First, the Audit Committee, comprised of committee chair Sue Larson, Council Treasurer Mike Onan and Debbie Burrington, performed procedures and testing recommended by the ELCA , and based on their work, the books and records were found to be materially accurate in all respects. In lay terms, that’s a good thing! The council accepted the committee’s report, and we thank Debbie, Mike and Sue for their work.
We had two representatives of Plymouth 2 Alano provide an update on the group that is
housed in the northwest portion of our church building, and an important ministry partner of Oak Knoll Lutheran. Some interesting facts: they have been a part of our church since it was built in 1996 and previously held meetings in the old parsonage near our former church located where Olive Garden is today. The group holds 19 different meetings a week, 365 days a year, serving 700-800 people each week. We are grateful to have them as part of our faith community.
Have you noticed the new welcome sign over the entry door? It offers a welcome to all who come to the church. We also refreshed the sign “Wherever you go, Christ goes with you” that is visible as you leave. Thanks to Jeannine Cox, Vicar Chantal, Christina Black, Adam Moore and Karla Stokke for seeing this project through and to Fred Moore for installing the signs so they were in place for our Neighborhood meal. It’s another way we welcome the community through our doors.
Yours in service,
David Hakensen
Church Council President
