Two Special Events at Second Parish This Week!

We have two upcoming events, Hull Firefly on Tuesday evening, and the start of our Community Meditation sessions on Thursday. We are very excited about these community offerings.

The Hull Firefly Evening of Storytelling is a popular and fun event with the theme "The Scariest Night of My Life". We are hosting a reception with pizza, drinks and dessert after the storytelling. A few volunteers are needed to help with the event: hosting, bartending and providing sweets. Please contact Lisa or Gayla if you can help.  lisahullshetty@gmail.com or gayla@gaylagodbydesign.com

The Community Meditation is one of our new initiatives at Second Parish. It will be offered free of charge to the community every Thursday evening (suggested donation $10 to help defray the cost). The sessions, led by Paula McCree, a certified mindfulness instructor, will include gentle seated movement, breathwork and guided meditation. No experience is necessary. We hope you will join us and bring your friends and neighbors.

More information on these events is below.

News from Sunday Adventures

Boo! Our month of courage in Sunday Adventures is wrapping up with a bang. This week, we’re staring our fears right in the eyeballs (the googly kind!) while we get ready for Halloween and play some wickedly fun games.

We’ll also be working on what courage really means. Everyone feels afraid sometimes, even the bravest heroes! Courage doesn’t mean we never feel scared. It means we find ways to keep going, even when something makes us want to run away.

So come ready to giggle, gasp, and grow braver together. Just watch out for anything that goes bump in the night...

See you on Sunday!

Director of Faith Formation

2026 Main Street Pumpkin Patch a Success!

We opened a week later than expected due to a strong nor’easter, we added a day of sales on the Monday holiday, and we managed to finish close to last year's total. We sold out of all of the carving pumpkins and most of the sugar pumpkins. This year the remaining sugar pumpkins were donated to a family shelter and Weir River Farm for their resident animals.

In addition to our famous apple pies, we added some other baked goods this year: yummy pumpkin and lemon scones, and cranberry muffins. The new additions were well received, especially by the volunteers!

Our profits were a little lower than last year, at almost $11,000. This is a great fundraiser for the church, and gives us great visibility, especially with families of young children, many of whom expressed interest in the church.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered working shifts, moving pallets, setting up and breaking down displays, making pies, and presenting our welcoming community to all the visitors.

News from Social Outreach

The Second Sunday collection for MIRA (Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy) Coalition on October 11 raised $535. Thank you for your wonderful support of this coalition which brings over 160 organizations together to advance the rights and well-being of immigrants and refugees.

Food Donations for the Food Pantry

We will again be collecting non-perishable food items for the Hingham Food Pantry. This month the following items are on the HFP wishlist:

  • jars of pasta sauce
  • rice side dishes
  • boxes of granola bars
  • crackers

When you are shopping this week, think about adding some of these items to your basket.
