OK, we’re in the homestretch now and the hits are now going to come hot and heavy!
First up, the Federal Securities Institute is February 25 in Tampa. Grey Yadley and his Steering Committee (Lona Nallengara, A&O Shearman LLP; Steven A. Rosenblum, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; Lisa A. Schmidt, Richards, Layton and Finger; John W. White, Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP) are knocking it out of the park. The Steering Committee is impressive enough, but on top of that, we have the head of the S.E.C. coming to speak! And you get credits galore (15.0 general CLE credits, including 2.0 ethics, 1.5 professionalism, and 0.5 technology credits together with 15.0 Business Litigation and Civil Trial Certification credits)! You won't want to miss this one!
And right after that, the Florida Legislature convenes on March 4 in Tallahassee. BLS is as active as ever with four bills of interest and plenty of interest in other areas. And remember: if Legislative Chair Woody Pollack, Vice-Chair Dineen Wasylik or liaisons Aimee Lyon or Doug Bell call you during Session, that means they need something from you ASAP. The Legislature sees BLS not only as an advocate for Florida business but also as an honest broker of what is best for the business community. Part of that is being very responsive when legislators have questions on our sophisticated bills. Return that call right away!
And right after Session begins, we begin our Spring Retreat in Montreal and Quebec City. Jim Moon and Carly have been hard at work, and what better way for Floridians to start a trip to Canda than to go watch the Florida Panthers take the lumber to the Montreal Canadiens in their home arena? So what if you invented hockey Canada, we’re going to show you how to play! And then we go to Ottawa to meet with government officials and then Quebec City to spend a few days in the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac (i.e., the Castle on the Hill), and tours of the historic walled city, the Citadel, and the Legislature.
And right after that, the IP Symposium kicks off on April 10 from Aventura where Ameris Gyebi and her crew will deliver, as always, a great seminar. And right after that on May 23 the BLS Legislative Update will kick off in Orlando, followed by our Annual Meeting in Boca Raton in June. And don’t forget the committee seminars being held throughout the rest of the year, we have seven scheduled so far and Kathleen DiSanto and her team are getting even more programs online.
So buckle up, it’s going to be a great Spring ride!
