Message from the Chair

The calendar says six weeks away, but the Labor Day Retreat is right around the corner and deadlines are starting to pop up. Register right away because the registration deadline is July 26, remember there is no on-site registration. The room reservation deadline is also July 26, and at this price for rooms at the Ritz they won’t last long. Next, the sponsorship deadline to ensure inclusion in print and digital retreat materials is August 2. We can’t do the work of the Section without our sponsors, but we need you to sign up and confirm. Finally and certainly not least, committee leadership should

schedule their initial committee meetings right away if they haven’t done so to organize and begin scheduling their CLEs and projects for the coming year. One committee has already met and several more are planned or planning; don’t wait.

It’s going to be a great year; your Section leadership is excited and looking forward to it!

Outstanding Member of the Year

Congratulations again to Stephanie Lieb, our Outstanding Member of the Year. Steph embodies everything that is great about the Section: she’s an outstanding attorney, wonderful Mom and spouse, collegial and engaging, dedicated to service in and outside the Bar, and on top of all that, a wonderful person. A well-deserved award!

In their pro bono representation of songwriter client Vince Johnson, members of Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Intellectual Property practice group successfully resolved a copyright infringement matter brought on by Joseph Maldonado, also known as Joe Exotic or “Tiger King.”
