Mass for the Care of Creation and Blessing of Animals

September 29

Outdoor Worship in the Ficus Grove

In commemoration of St. Francis please plan to worship outdoors on Sunday, September 29 at 10 a.m. We will celebrate the great gift of creation, have a time for a special blessing of our companion animals and have festive treat for all creatures. All well-behaved humans and animals are welcomed. Please make sure to bring a lead for any dogs and please keep them under your close watch, especially around young children and other pets.

Music will be led by Katie Riley on guitar. We are so grateful for her gifts and the joy she brings to our outdoor worship.

There is plenty of seating available, but you are welcomed to bring a blanket or folding chairs if you'd prefer.

A Message

Regarding the Annual Koinonia Foster Family Event

For years, Trinity has hosted a December holiday party for foster children and their host families who are affiliated with Koinonia Family Services. This event has included gifts donated for each child and crafts and games and a visit with Santa. In the last few years this event attracted fewer families than in the past. After careful consideration and conversation with volunteers and with the staff at Koinonia, we have decided not to continue the holiday party and to seek to find another way to provide impactful support for the good work that Koinonia does in our broader community and for the children and families they serve. Stay tuned for updates as we continue the conversation. Thanks to all who have worked so hard through the years to provide joy, gifts, and support to this important community work.

United Against Hate Week

South Bay Community Gathering for LGBTQ+ Solidarity

Interfaith event “Rainbow Doors of Welcome” to be held during United Against Hate Week

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – An interfaith service of solidarity and support for the LGBTQ+ community of the South Bay will be held Sunday, September 22, at 3:00 p.m. at Manhattan Beach Community Church (MBCC) located at 303 S. Peck Ave., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.

Doors will open at 2:45 p.m. and refreshments will be provided at the reception following the event.

This program is part of a series of events taking place during United Against Hate Week (UAHW) that occurs September 21-27, 2024, made possible in part with support from LA vs. Hate and South Bay Community Coalition Against Hate (SBCCAH). Additional information can be found at www.bit.ly/southbayvshate.

“Rainbow Doors of Welcome” is open to all and will include:

A panel of South Bay faith leaders, including Pr. Douglas Barclay from Trinity Lutheran, Rev. Rachel Nyback from St. Cross Episcopal, Deacon Dick Williams from American Martyrs, Rabbi Rebecca Yussman from Temple Menorah and Rev. Josh Yee from St. Luke Presbyterian, Rolling Hills, who seek to welcome and affirm members of the LGBTQ+ community

-An opening performance by the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles

-Statements of support by local organizations

-Music and poetry performances

-A concluding dedication and blessing of new Rainbow Doors to be displayed at MBCC

In early July 2024, as June “Pride Month” had just ended, the MBCC congregation experienced the desecration and vandalism of a public display of welcome that was installed in front of the church building. The display included a set of large doors, each painted one color of the rainbow, with the text: “God’s Doors Are Open to All.” A new set of Rainbow Doors will be on

display at the September 22 event that will include a blessing of these doors as a symbol of welcome to the LGBTQ+ community.

Attendees will be provided a decal or small poster featuring rainbow doors and the text “Our Doors Are Open to All” or “God’s Doors Are Open to All” to be displayed in windows of their homes, businesses, and houses of worship. “Rainbow Doors of Welcome” will provide a forum for healing, acceptance, and solidarity as our communities commit to stand up against hate in all its forms.

The Great Cycle Challenge

During the month of September, thousands of bicycle riders will take part in The Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for children’s cancer research. Pastor John Soyster, who served as Trinity's interim pastor before Pr. Douglas was called in April of 2020, will be riding for the second year. His motivation and inspiration for riding is his grandson, Jackson Soyster. He is asking his friends to consider doing one or more of four things:

  • Pray for Jack, who is battling a brain tumor.
  • Send Jack a card of encouragement.
  • Sponsor Pastor John in the Great Cycle Challenge.
  • Join Team Jack.

For details and information on how to sponsor or join Team Jack, click on the button below, thank you!
