I-494 Construction Information
A pavement resurfacing and bridge repair project is well underway on Interstate 494 from South St. Paul to Inver Grove Heights. Below is information about additional construction planned for 2019 and 2020.
The I-494 construction between Hardman Avenue in South St. Paul and Blaine Avenue in Inver Grove Heights will be completed in fall 2019. Starting in July, an eight-mile section of I-494 between 3rd Avenue in Inver Grove Heights and the east side of the Minnesota River Bridge will also undergo pavement reconstruction and bridge repair work. The project work will also include lighting replacement, turn lane installation and signal replacement at I-494/Pilot Knob Rd., drainage updates and pond construction. The improvements will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, provide a smoother riding surface and extend the life of the pavement and bridges.
There will be several major traffic impacts during this work including multiple weekend road closures on various sections of I-494 in this area. Stay up-to-date on specific closure dates and traffic impacts by signing up for email updates at the project website:
