Weekly Update
July 31, 2020
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 18:2
Good morning, Church Family!
It was exciting gathering together last Sunday to worship our Heavenly Father. We miss those who are not here but together we are still the church.

OHA is informing the state of new COVID-19 cases each day along with related deaths; it is a sobering reality of the times we are in. Your safety remains a high priority as we continue to meet. Thank you for doing your part in helping to stay safe and sanitary. We will continue to WEAR, WATCH and WASH as we meet. Wear your mask, watch your distance and wash your hands is the new normal for now.

Continue to check on one another as the week goes by. Many reports have come in about people receiving an encouraging call just when it was needed; be thankful we are able to communicate with each other.

Read Psalm 118:1-9 and thank God for His saving goodness.

Be sure to read the entire update each week when it comes out. There is valuable information about service sign-up, prayer requests, guidelines for the service, online classes, etc.
Call the church office if you have any questions or problems you need help with.

We are Christ’s body and we will get through this together!

What have YOU been doing these last 4 months? Do you have any photos of you or your family reaching out to neighbors or friends while in quarantine? We know some of you have been doing the grocery shopping for a shut-in, or visiting our retirement center folks through the windows. Maybe you've been doing yard work or planted a garden. And others didn't let quarantine put an end to ministry and have used Zoom to have Bible Studies or other get-togethers.

We'd like to see your photos this week. Please email them to the church office at fcctd.office@gmail.com

We are busy collecting for shoeboxes but we need your help. The blessing our church family has been over the years in helping reach children around the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ has been greatly appreciated.  It is exciting to get emails from kids who have received our boxes in the past and hearing their joy at finding out someone loves and prays for them in The Dalles, USA.

We have a little over three months until packing OCC Shoebox gifts and we need a lot of items to fill boxes. We have started hitting up the Back-To-School sales at Staples, Walgreens and Fred Meyer. They limit us on how much we can get per customer so will have to make numerous trips and depend on others to limit out as well.

If you would like Jennifer to do your shopping let her know at 541-296-3391. I will be ordering 300 boxes from OCC and pray for help filling them. Things we need are: soft toothbrushes, bars of Ivory soap, washcloths, hand-sized bouncy balls, yoyos, jump ropes, toys, toys, and toys.
Dear Friends ,
2020 has certainly been a year of unprecedented times and incredible opportunity. As the Board of Directors for ACTS, we have spent the past several months in deep prayer and conversation, seeking wisdom from God and counsel from those more experienced and knowledgeable than we are. We are thankful for a ministry, founded by Joe Martin, that has seen 31 years of meeting the needs and reaching the hearts of our local kids. Beautiful volunteers joined this team, many donors and churches have provided support and facilities, and countless lives have been changed. The ministry of ACTS has made a mark in this community.

That being said, we realize that there are seasons in life and seasons in ministry. This past year we have walked through a change in leadership, coupled with countless complications brought on by COVID-19 and not being able to do the ministry we so love to do. Through many months of discussion and 40+ days of corporate prayer, we have reached a difficult and momentous decision. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of the ACTS ministry, which includes ceasing the pursuit of building the Gorge Youth Center.

This decision has been hard, but we have peace that it is the right step. We are now working through details with legal, financial, and spiritual advisors to bring all aspects of ACTS to a smooth and timely closure. Our biggest desire is to bring God glory as we work through the steps of this process.

Thank you for joining us on this journey and for walking with us as we close this sweet ministry and ask God to bring others forward to reach the youth of The Dalles with the message of Jesus.

  Jennifer and I are saddened by the end of ACTS After School (see letter above).  We have been blessed to have been a part of this ministry for at least 18 or 19 years and will miss the opportunity of reaching kids for Christ through it.
   We do have a peace now about it, knowing where God closes one door, He opens another. Now we have one more day to add another Good News Club and those kids who went to ACTS on Thursday maybe will come to it.
   Please pray for local churches to look at how they can step up and open their doors to after school ministry that helps kids with homework, feeds them a healthy snack, teaches them about Jesus, does STEAM challenges that help kids work together towards a goal, does crafts and physical activity.
   Please pray for the already established children's outreach through Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Clubs and for more volunteers to help with existing clubs and start new clubs.
   Please pray for someone to take on the Junior Leadership Development program that is already established, as we have a great group of Junior and Senior high school kids who would like to continue in this ministry. We can help with the spiritual aspect of leadership, but the sports aspect of leadership, it would need to come from someone who knows sports.
Please pray for an end of the pandemic that prohibits our Good News Clubs at the schools. We are continuing to do outreach by taking lessons and activities to our kids and hopefully keeping the connection for when we can meet again.
May God be glorified in all we think, say, feel and do!
