Grace Episcopal Church
Weekly Update
November 12, 2019

On Saturday night, Emily and Dwayne hosted at the Rectory a Friendsgiving for our youth. What an incredible night as 11 of our youngest members came together to share a meal, play games, roast s'mores and have fellowship with one another!

Ready, set and GO!!! The ECW Holiday Bazaar is this weekend, Saturday, November 16th from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. We still need a few more volunteers to make this a successful event! Please read below to see what is needed and where you might be able to help out.
Calling all Grace Church Bakers

We sell lots of baked goods so we are asking for as many donations as possible! Best sellers are cakes, pies, breads and biscuits, especially items that can be frozen. Baked goods should be dropped off in the Parish House on Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning. If you have any questions, please contact Carolyn Stevens at 804-556-6169 or
Bazaar Volunteers Needed!

We are seeking volunteers for a 2 hour volunteer shift on the day of the Holiday Bazaar. We still need 1 volunteer from 8-10 am and 1 more volunteer from 10-12 noon. Please contact Kate Sarfaty at  or at 556-3344 if you can help out.

Our next Rector's Forum is this Sunday, November 17th at 9:45 am. We will discuss a lovely little book,  7 Days of Christmas by Jen Hatmaker. In simple impactful reflections, Jen highlights ways we can refocus our spiritual connection to the coming of Christ.

You are invited to purchase the book or just come for the discussion. Learn more here:  7 Days of Christmas
Election Prayer Service - We will gather on the third Tuesday of every month at Noon in the sanctuary to pray as a community for the next 12 months for our nation as we look toward the 2020 election. Together, let's open our hearts and minds to new paths of peace and reconciliation in our often divided world. We are sincere when we say all are welcome, no matter your political affiliation. Our first gathering will be Tuesday, November 19th at Noon so please help us spread the word.

2020 Stewardship - Thank you to everyone who has submitted a pledge for 2020. If you have not been able to return the pledge card, it's not too late! There are additional pledge cards available in the Narthax or you are welcome to email Cindy at with your financial commitment information. We will be drafting the 2020 budget this week so the sooner we can hear from everyone, the better we can prepare for all the work we hope to do next year.

New Members - We are excited to see so many new faces joining us for worship! We are hopeful that you will want to join Grace Church as a member. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Grace family, please let Emily know by December 1st. We will have a New Member Recognition on December 15th at the 11 am service to officially welcome and bless our newcomers.

Choir - Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate Advent and Christmas this year? Consider joining the choir! And we would love to have another tenor! It is a weekly way to bring your focus back to Christ during a hectic season. Contact Dee Kysor at to see how you can become a part of this important ministry!
Hot Chocolate Hour - Hot Chocolate Hour for our youth is back!! While the adults are upstairs for the Rector's Forum on November 17th at 9:45 am, the youth are invited to meet downstairs in what will soon become a fun, comfortable space for our kids to gather. That's right.... We are creating a YOUTH ROOM! We are asking our youth to help name their new space and provide ideas of how we can decorate the room in creative ways that reflect who they are and what they love. This is  their space and we are so excited to get it ready for lots of great fellowship and learning in the future.

ASK Donut Run - Grace will be organizing a team to participate in the ASK 5K Donut Run on Saturday, November 23rd at 8 am for kids 5 and younger and 9 am for adults and youth (6 to 17 years old). ASK provides assistance, support and kindness to children with cancer.

The church will financially sponsor Grace kids that would like to participate! We ask all the adults/parents who would like to run/walk pay for their own entry. If you want to join us, please sign up on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall by November 15th! Questions? Contact Barbara Slone at
