Welcome to Pilgrim Church of Duxbury
An Open & Affirming Congregation
Worship service will be at 10:00am this Sunday, September 12th.

Please use the SIDE ENTRANCE of the building on Sunday mornings!
Given the rise in the Delta variant COVID cases, we are following these protocols during church and Sunday School at least for the next month.

  • When in church, we ask all non-vaccinated people to wear masks.
  • When in church, we recommend children wear masks, but leave it to the discretion of the parents.
  • We ask Sunday School teachers to wear masks when inside the building and we will try and maintain social distancing as much as possible.
  • Children will begin church inside until after the “Time for All Ages,” then, weather permitting, Sunday School lessons will be outside whenever possible. In inclement weather, we will social distance inside.
  • Masks will not be required of children or teachers when outside. Social distancing will be maintained as much as possible.

Good morning!

September is here and we can sense the renewal of the seasons in the cooler nights and the heat of the day. It is still summer, even if Dunkies came out with their Pumpkin Spice Coffee so early! I have found that there are two types of seasonal people this time of year; those who hold on furiously to summer and those who can’t wait for Fall festivals and apple picking … and pies!

I am one who loves the Fall but reluctantly is forced to live in a world that works 6 weeks ahead, planning services for October in September and trying to stay ahead of the game. It has been especially difficult over the past 19 months with Covid protocols and even now as we see a spike in infections yet are trying to return to traditional “church”. Planning ahead requires quick thinking when plans have to be changed on short notice. Even the normal seems abnormal.

Yet we take our cues from scripture and try to look ahead to future events with hope and faith. Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (New International Version).

We hope to see you on Sunday, Rally Day, as we welcome our Sunday School families back to worship. We will hold classes outside when we are able. We will have some good food to enjoy after and enjoy a reunion in fellowship on the front lawn. Please be mindful of Covid protocols with masks for those unvaccinated and social distancing as we take our first step back!

September is here!

RB
My wife Betsy and I have a good friend David who has an important job with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Association). He works in different locations around the country, helping communities and organizations manage communications and cooperation. David’s latest daily email message to his team started with this quote:

Every day passes whether we participate or not.
Deng Ming-Dao

This quote invites us, in the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, to “‘keep our appointment with life’ by showing up in the only place our life is actually happening – here and now. This present moment.”

David goes on to say, “There is pressing need and good work to be done here and now. So the invitation is to show up for it, doing our best to keep faith with ourselves and those around us at work and at home.”

I hope we all do our best to engage our days and embrace the moments that bring light to our lives and assure us we are walking with Jesus.

Blessings to you all.
Take care,
Rev. John

GREETERS

As we start to return to church, we would love to have volunteers greet people as they arrive! Do you remember the first person you met when you joined Pilgrim Church?

We have 7 minutes to make a good impression with our welcome for first time visitors. Please consider being a Greeter and being that “one” who made an impression for our new visitors. Sign up is available one Sunday mornings!
Each Sunday we offer the opportunity to take part in our service as a Lay reader, sharing the scripture readings during the service.

If you would like to participate, speak with one of
our Diaconate members and we will schedule your participation!
News from our
Christian Education Director
Sunday, September 12 is our Rally Sunday welcome-back service and celebration.  We will launch the new Sunday School year with a 13-week study of the “Fruits of the Spirit” and with a Rally Sunday picnic on the front lawn with hot dogs, chips and some fruits-of-the-spirit fruit salad, of course! (weather permitting)

If you plan on attending our Rally Sunday picnic, please help us in our planning by signing up here.

We would like to offer nursery care for our families with infants and toddlers. If you love babies and toddlers, we need volunteers for nursery care!

We also need volunteers to help teach Sunday School to grades K – 5, lesson plan and snack provided!

If you are interested in doing either of these, please email me to let me know, (youthdir@uccduxbury.org) fill out the CORI form and bring or mail it with a copy of your license to the church office.  (Pilgrim Church of Duxbury, PO Box 186, Duxbury, MA 02331)

We need as many people as possible to help make our Christian Education program thrive!

Also, help me keep her records up-to-date by registering your children for Sunday School here!
