SUMMER IS HERE! AND SO IS CHURCH!
It is an annual discussion about the culture of churches during the Summer. There is a difference between September to June worship and July and August. Attendance is lower, the beach awaits, Children’s time is limited to special Sundays, sermons are shorter (That’s always a big one!)
But Church is still here! I always found summer worship to be a refreshing change, a time to introduce new things, a more casual atmosphere and, I think a very overlooked feature, a time where we have many Visitors. Whether the visitors are home for the summer, or vacationing, or even residents in town looking for a new experience, each Sunday we usually have new people in our pews. Which in turn calls for you, our members, to practice RADICAL HOSPITALITY.
On my Sabbatical 6 years ago, Maureen and I visited several churches on the West coast that were being recognized for practicing Radical Hospitality. We were disappointed in most of the churches we visited because very few people stepped up to welcome “the strangers among them.” It is said that New Englander’s are know for being a bit stand-off-ish, but let me tell you, the churches I have served put these churches we visited to shame.
When you come to church this summer, please…do your best to introduce yourself to those you don’t recognize. It may be a time when you reintroduce yourself o someone you have already met, but we all have the “Covid Absence” excuse to fall back on! The only way we grow is for you to introduce yourself and welcome new people. DO you remember that person who welcomed you on your arrival at Pilgrim Church? Chances are it was NOT the Pastor! It was a neighbor, a another Parent of children, a Diaconate member…
BE THAT PERSON!
AND COME TO CHURCH!

Wear something Colorful!

"Smell the sea, and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly."

Happy summer, friends! Yes, our summer season is here. While it may have officially arrived on Monday, June 21st, we’ve all felt summer recently – hot, sunny, longer days.

Betsy and I have already spent some great time on Duxbury Beach and love to watch the kids of all ages romping and splashing in the water and on the sandy shore. They are having great fun while mom and dad rest and relax in their best ways.

Enjoy these summer days. Find ways to rest, relax, and recharge after a challenging year. Be at peace.

Blessings to you all,
Rev. John

The needs of the church do not end during the summer. Our Trustees have done an amazing job directing the finances of the church during Covid, and our members have done very well in keeping as current as they can on their pledges. For that, we thank you!

However, we do ask that you please remember the church on your giving over the summer and forward your pledge to the office so we can continue to catch up…we are falling a little bit behind in our offerings. If you would like to schedule Electronic Pledging, please contact the church office! office@uccduxbury.org
