Welcome to Pilgrim Church of Duxbury
An Open & Affirming Congregation

“Autumn has caught us in our summer wear.”

Philip Larkin, British poet (1922–86)

Tomorrow is the first day of Fall, at 9:03 pm, the Autumnal Equinox begins in the Northern Hemisphere. The equinox occurs at the same moment worldwide. After the autumnal equinox, days become shorter than nights as the sun continues to rise later and nightfall arrives earlier. This ends with the winter solstice, after which days start to grow longer once again.

This event signals to us that changes are coming! Everywhere you look, you can see the visible changes as nature prepares for winter: birds are flying south, temperatures are getting cooler, leaves are changing colors, to name a few. It also means that our worship times together are some of the most wonderful events of our year! Celebrating World Communion Sunday, the Harvest Festival, Stewardship Potluck Brunch, Thanksgiving Worship and more will gather us in, in many instances for the first time since 2019!

Come and rediscover the joy of being a member of this wonderful church! Your presence makes us better and your own faith development and participation is something that should be considered as an act of faith and love!

Behold ~ Neighbors in Need ~ October 2nd

As in past years, Pilgrim Church, as a Five for Five supporter of the United Church of Christ, donates to the annual Neighbors in Need campaign each fall. With the focus of working for a just world for all, this longstanding effort each October focuses on creating a “more just, peaceful and compassionate world that honors all of God’s creation”. This year the theme of this offering is Behold, with an emphasis on economic justice. The UCC uses funds from this annual appeal to support the Council for American Indian Ministry and to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct services through grants awarded to UCC churches and local organizations. These ministries of justice work to lift up those who are often overlooked and underrepresented, our Neighbors in Christ.

On October 2nd, a special offering will be collected for Pilgrim’s contribution to Neighbors in Need. Feel free to use the blank offering envelopes in the pews and write Neighbors in Need on the outside. If you write a check, please note on the memo line the same designation.

Watch for expanded information in the October Newsletter or go to the UCC website to read about this and the other Five for Five programs we support. The Outreach and Mission Board is grateful that we can continue to encourage and enable these efforts.

We will be collecting cookies, brownies, and bars for the Pine Street Inn today, Wednesday, September 21 and tomorrowThursday, September 22 in the narthex of the church (FRONT DOORS). They can be homemade, or store bought.

WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

OCTOBER 2, 2022

We will be welcoming new members into the full life and membership of Pilgrim Church on Sunday, October 2nd! It is also World Communion Sunday.

We are asking that members contribute a favorite fresh bread/rolls for Fellowship Hour to share!

We are happy to welcome back the choir for this year. We rehearse Thursday nights beginning at 7:00PM. Choir is open to all and no choral experience is necessary – just a desire to sing faith through song. We’ll be exploring a variety of musical styles this year.

Can’t join us on Thursday but would like to sing? Let me know. I can get the music to you, and through the wonders of YouTube you can sing along. We will be rehearsing on Sunday mornings also, before we sing anthem.

Do you have limited time? Consider joining us for a few weeks or even just to sing a favorite anthem. We are extremely flexible. Upcoming anthems include:

All things bright and beautiful - John Rutter

Down by the River to Pray – Sheldon Curry

God is my Strong Salvation – Lloyd Pfautsch

Let All Things Now Living – Katherine K. Davis.

Questions? Please see me or email me at [email protected]
