Welcome to Pilgrim Church of Duxbury
An Open & Affirming Congregation
 Happy Wednesday!

May is moving right along and we seem to be sprinting towards summer too fast! There are so many opportunities to worship together and create community here at Pilgrim Church that, at times, it makes my head spin!

This Sunday we will be welcoming 16 new members as they join our church!
We have 8 baptisms planned over the next two months, Confirmation Sunday, Children’s Sunday, a farewell celebration for Rev John and so much more! The church is alive!

We remain cautious of the Covid virus, asking that you all remain vigilant in your health, paying attention to your bodies and possible exposures. But the questions of the health of our church are being answered as we attend our Annual Church Meeting after church this Sunday. Thank you to all who have served on our committees and boards for some extra time during Covid and thank you to all who are excited to step up and join the Committees and Boards as we plan for the future needs of this church and beyond! If you would like to participate, I know there are still some openings on the Cristian Education Committee and some others. Pray about it…and take the leap!

See you Sunday!
Rev Bill
My favorite guide on the “Ten Percent Happier” meditation app shares a way to be kind to ourselves in stressful times by focusing on three simple lines that – spoken slowly either silently or aloud – build toward a loving and powerful message. The three lines are:

This is stress.
Stress is a part of life.
May I find ease.

When we are bound up by stress, no matter the cause, we can use this simple meditation to bring ease and a gentle heart back to our lives.

Thank you to my wonderful wife Betsy for leading us to daily meditation a couple of years ago. It reminds us that if we take the time to find it, peaceful ease is available to embrace and share with all those we know and love.

Blessings to you all,

Rev. John

ANNUAL MEETING ~ THIS SUNDAY
In accordance with Article III, Section 4.A of the By-laws of Pilgrim Church, the Annual Meeting of the congregation will be held this Sunday, May 15, 2022 following the worship service. The agenda includes a review of annual reports and approval of new committee member/officers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All members are notified and encouraged to attend to finalize the slate of Officers, Boards, and Committees and other business that comes before the congregation.
NAME TAG SUNDAY
Because we have so many new members joining this Sunday, please wear your NAME TAG so we can help all get to know each other! If you dot not have one, let us know! Remember, we have 2 name tag locations, in the front narthex (entry way) of the church and outside the elevator on the sanctuary level.
     CELEBRATION SUNDAY FOR REV. JOHN ~ MAY 22
We will be celebrating Rev. John’s ministry here at Pilgrim Church as it comes to a close on Sunday, May 22nd. We welcome you to come and share in our service of worship and then all are invited to a reception in his honor in our Fellowship Hall immediately after worship.
NURSERY HELP NEEDED
We’re so happy to be welcoming many new young families with their infants and toddlers to Pilgrim Church! Help the parents enjoy a peace-filled service by volunteering to take care of their little ones in the nursery by signing up here!
Pine Street Inn
We will be accepting donations of cookies, brownies, and bars - homemade or store bought Monday 5/16 thru Thursday 5/19 for the Pine Street Inn. There will be a table in the narthex of the church. (This is a week earlier than usual and our last donation until September.)
The guests really appreciate a sweet treat after their meal. Thank you for your continued support!
WRITING A SERMON
So, you want to write a sermon! Where do I start?
How do I get the words out? Do they make sense?
Does anyone want to hear what I have to say?
All good questions.
This summer, as Rev Bill takes his vacation, we will have opportunities for Lay People (you!) to offer a sermon. To help you in that process, or just to bring you into the world of sermon writing, RB is offering some workshops to help get you started.
SOCIAL JUSTICE AND INCLUSION EVENTS
From time to time, we will offer events that are being offered locally if you are interested and feel called to attend. These events fall under the SOCIAL JUSTICE category and are meaningful to some, especially the communities that are underserved or disenfranchised. As an Open and Affirming Church, we strive for opportunities of education, inclusion and prayer.
