Welcome to Pilgrim Church of Duxbury
An Open & Affirming Congregation
Worship service will be at 10:00am this Sunday, September 19th.

Please use the SIDE ENTRANCE of the building on Sunday mornings!
Given the rise in the Delta variant COVID cases, we are following these protocols during church and Sunday School at least for the next month.

  • When in church, we ask all non-vaccinated people to wear masks.
  • When in church, we recommend children wear masks, but leave it to the discretion of the parents.
  • We ask Sunday School teachers to wear masks when inside the building and we will try and maintain social distancing as much as possible.
  • Children will begin church inside until after the “Time for All Ages,” then, weather permitting, Sunday School lessons will be outside whenever possible. In inclement weather, we will social distance inside.
  • Masks will not be required of children or teachers when outside. Social distancing will be maintained as much as possible.
In accordance with Article III, Section E.1 of the By-laws of Pilgrim Church, the Annual Meeting of the congregation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 following the worship service. The agenda includes a review of annual reports and approval of new committee member/officers.
Good morning!

As we continue to “get back to normal” in our church life, cautious of Covid protocols and staying safe, I have found that I have been busier than ever. This past week we welcomed our Sunday School team and kids back, as we have scheduled outside activities when able. We have started to meet in person again with Committees, new excitement is starting to build as we plan our Annual Meeting on September 26th, our Harvest Festival in October, Confirmation Class will be starting up and Youth Group gatherings, New Member Sunday on October 3rd, and so much more!

One thing we need to be attentive to as we re-gather are the changes that are out of necessity (as in Covid protocols) and some changes we have made administratively with vision to the future. I have always liked a quote from Sydney J. Harris; “Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better.” Over the past 2 years, members on Committees have looked at our By Laws and made suggestions to revise them to Church Council, who have produced a proposal to be voted upon at the Annual Meeting. We encourage our members to review them and bring any questions you may have before we vote.

We are also looking for an Interim Organist while we conduct a search for a new Music Director. If you would like to be part of the Search team, please email the church office as we collect names to submit to the Church Council.

Change is a double-edged sword, not always easy but most often necessary to grow! What doesn’t change is the love and acceptance we have received from God! I look forward to renewing our tie together with you all!

A small group of us have enjoyed some time together in a prayer meeting the first Monday of the month at 2pm at Pilgrim Church. If you are interested in joining this group of church folks, let me know. We bring our prayer concerns and prayers of thanks for the special events in our lives.
One of my experiences with this group of friends is seeing how folks look out for one another, particularly in this challenging time. It is beautiful, and it is essential for all of us to maintain our spirit and energy.
When we become tired and overwhelmed, we can sometimes feel like we are on our own and carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders by ourselves.
We are not in a sprint race. We are on a long-distance excursion together. In our time of prayers and meditation, Jesus Christ walks with us to assure us, to strengthen us on this journey.
Take care of yourself and share your spirit with those folks who might need support and inspiration. If you might want to join this prayer group, let me know.
Blessings to you all.
Take care,
Rev. John

The Deacons need help!
The Diaconate has many responsibilities. We are looking for help in two areas.
First, we would like to expand participation with Scripture readings. Melissa will send you the readings ahead of time, so that you are familiar with the reading.
Second, we want to be a welcoming congregation and to do that we need people who would be willing to come 15 minutes early and greet at the side door.
These are opportunities that you can sign up for when your schedule permits. This would be a great opportunity to reconnect with our church community after such a long time apart.
Please let Lucy Shepard know if you are interested in any of these opportunities.
